Just bought a cheap action cam (3 I think) just to see how I get on with it. Haven't used it yet, If I start to use it a lot I might consider a better one. I do like the idea of the remote controller. Not bothered about sound quality cos it seems all you get on a bike is wind roar anyway.

ah...think someone else on here has one of them......MAPLINS ?
[/quote]

Yep, Bill (slimwilly) got one (Actioncam 3), I thought the quality of the vids he posted was good enough to be starting with, £60 Maplins job, + microSD card (16Gb). I also thought I might not end up using it much, hence going for a cheaper option. I may have been right, cos it's still in the box!  :lol

It is very good value for money but it has a LOT of problems.  The mic is worse than rubbish, the frame rate seems slow.  IIRC it splits the files in to 2gb pieces and it misses out a few seconds at the beginning and end of each file.  The buttons are a faff to use and difficult to remember which sequence of flashing lights means what.  The editing is difficult as IIRC the codecs, although okay, are not the normal mobile ones.

I think Alex Fitu got it right, whack a 32GB card in each, set it to loop, run from the ignition, overwrite when full and mount one at the front and one at the back permanently.  Good for accident evidence.

I'd get something decent for a helmet camera though.

All of this is just my own unsubstantiated opinion.

Think you've missed my point there Simon. I'm not looking to make a Hollywood movie, nor do I know whether I'll get into using a cam at all. Hence cheap to start. I'm aware that there are much better ones out there, but I don't want to spend until I'm sure I can justify it. I'm not planning on using it to film accident evidence or any other stuff like that. I'm not likely to be a regular poster on YouTube, if at all.  It's just something I thought I'd try, and see how I get on.

It doesn't always work out like that for me.  I see your point but for me it's like saying I'm in to cars, do I buy a ford ka or a focus st.

One will cheese you off, the other will give you a smile. I find the cheap Web cam irritates me from its lack of finesse and polish but it's okay for routine use. If it makes you happy that's all that matters tho :-)

Hmmm, puzzled as to how I'm going to mount this ActionCam...ideas?
It comes with a plastic clamp that would fit the handlebar (but wouldn't give a clear view from there), and a stack of Velcro on an elasticated strap. I'd prefer to use the clamp, but there doesn't appear to be anywhere suitable to fit it.

...saw one the other day nick mounted under nose of fairing?

Yeah, that would be a good place, but the only way I can see to do that is to use sticky-back Velcro, but I don't want to use any adhesives straight onto the bike, especially not to the plastics.

..what i saw was on a blackbird and it looked like he,d made a bracket coming off the forks keeping it tucked up under fairing!!

If mounting anything under the nose fairing just be aware of limited space from nose dive under heavy braking!

Possible off the mirror stems but there will be a lot of vibration.

Could bend some flat steel and attach that behind crash bungs if you have them, then attach mountings on top the bent flat steel.

There's numerous places all with pros and cons, just sit in front of the bike with the camera offering it up!
Some say...

I believe the fitu screwed it to the underside of the fairing.

Why don't you go for the helmet mount and the sticky velcro one?

Nick, did you see where i put mine? the front that is, and for the rear the pillion footrest works very well.If you need help ask, :lol , i being a plumber used a plastic pipe elbow, the handlebar clamp fits on that, i heated the one side of it and pressed it flat, don't burn your pinkies though.
then i drilled a hole throug it and found a bolt, the one on the side of the rad.

I do have one idea brewing.
Looking at one of Luke's bikes with the top cowl off, I noticed there seems to be a straight run down to below the cowl, directly under the centre cowl-bracket tube. As I was also thinking of trying to mount a couple of small, bright lights under there, I'm wondering if I can get a bracket made up that will mount off of that brace tube, the camera in the centre, a light on either side. I need to find someone locally who can do a bit of fabrication, but it would mean all 3 items would mount without getting too close to the front fender when under hard braking (I think).

This is my plan for some spotlights, or spotlight lookalikes anyway plus a camera if i get one....my front fairing sub frame is totally exposed & looks ugly as foc but it does look ideal for clamping stuff to 8)
