All I can think of atm is that there is a wee preview of the pm and the pm itself, have you clicked directly onto the message at the top of the page to read it rather than just the wee preview thing at the bottom?

I've changed the settings so my latest PM opens at the top of the page. But there was no orange indicator next to the PM in the list showing it unread.

Sorry Farjo, not my intent! :o
It happened again this evening. But due to the (atrocious) internet speed here at home, I reckon it may be linked to that.
Back again this evening. I'd been off the site for a few hours, one unread PM. Long on, the inbox counter says two, when I read the PM, it goes back to 1. Grr.
Bloody intermittent faults. They piss the hell out of everyone.
Took me a while but looks like you've got message / messages that you've also sent to yourself as well as the intended recipient which is unread in your sent box. So if you go through those messages it will get rid of the unread notification. And then if you stop sending the PMs to yourself it won't happen again.

I went through my sent box - nothing unread, nothing untoward. I left it, and the problem was there all yesterday.
