It hasn't got a colour - It's the old 2006 grey one!

I really couldn't make my mind up about the next bike, so I thought I'd just get a second hand one to see if I could get on with it. I've kept the Fazer and 20k on the Kwak later, I honestly think it's the only thing that comes close for the performance/comfort equation you get with Gen 1. It is tremendous over distance. And then there's that engine!

Always fun to get back on the Fazer though. Makes me feel like a hooligan again. The ZZR's quite serious in comparison. And you'll cack yourself at the first valve check bill. 800 quid. Ouch.

Are you on the www.ZX14R.co.uk forum. It's as friendly and useful as this one.

Everything I've read about the Street Triple has been full of praise for it, major grin factor - I'd love to try one, but I'd be worried that at 6' 2'' I'd just be too cramped on one. But, see, that's where if you could have it as a 2nd bike it wouldn't matter so much if you didn't get on with it. Just trade it for something else.

I'm 6'4". Test rode one recently and tried really hard to convince myself it was possible. It really is fun but no way I could ride this bike on a regular basis. Actually took it back half way through the hour I was allowed because bits of my anatomy were starting to hurt  :\

So it's as I suspected then. I wonder if the Speed Triple 1050 is significantly bigger? I've sat on one in a showroom and like the position generally but haven't ridden one. Didn't even bother sitting on the Street Triple, but have been offered a test ride of both, and a Tiger Sport, even tho I told the sales guy I wasn't in a position to buy anything. He said, that's ok, at least you're honest about it! D'you think he thinks he can ensnare me anyway?!

Get it fully Ivanised - there's your grin factor multiplied by 10 straight away :-)

Stage one is barely noticeable...

Won't hurt to go for a ride. I didn't bother with the Speed triple. It felt a little bigger in the showroom but just didn't have the same appeal as the Street.

I had one of those before the Fazer8. Great fun to ride but the seat/tank combo was a ball crusher. The latest ones with the low pipe are supposed to be better and they actually feel bigger than the older ones as the seat is a different shape and angle. They still have expensive servicing with valve checks every 12,000 miles.

Ah, Mr Boxer you are the moral of the story, the example of where I fear to tread. Having made mine so she fits the bill, what's the point in ditch n switch?

The Full Monty option scares the beejasus out of me but braided lines and sussies might be the way forward. Certainly a cheaper option particularly as I've had to spend my available cash on a new car instead. I'll keep trawling eBay for inspiration, thanks for your help guys.

I would agree that the 1st option is suspenders and exhaust to completly freshen it up. But if you really do have the new bike buzz, you could do worse then think about the Z1000SX.

Theres a cb1300 for sale on here...have you considered that mate?  Probably one for the older feller ( im 53) who grew up on seventies bikes, but ....It's a good bike, the old cb13.. though not for everybody. It doesn't have anything like the engine of a busa, despite being 1300 cc. It isn't as sharp, light or quick of the mark as my fz1. It only has five gears, and is best ridden short shifting into top then staying there. It's really, really heavy. But ..... if I could only have one bike it would be my cb.

Why? The looks are pure eighties muscle bike, and I love that. The build quality is phenomenal. On sticky tyres it will stay with anything ridden by an average rider, and muscling it thru bends is hugely rewarding. Its balanced, and on the move, agile. Whilst not demonically fast, it's quicker than you think..I had all day out on my busa yesterday in case it sells soon, and whilst it fucks off at an unbelievable rate even left in top, I didn't get anywhere any quicker than I would on the cb. The big Honda is as comfy as an old gs thou, and dare i say it, even comfier than a gen 1 fazer. Its a superb pillion bike and then some. You get all your nostalgia kicks without the skinny tyres, hinge in the middle frame and shite brakes. It does have summat the busa has, that many jap bikes haven't got, and that's road presence. I enjoy that aspect of it just as much as I do grunting about back lanes on my Hardley Movinson fat bob. It's just one of them bikes that to me looks bloody good and delivers on those looks in the purity of the riding experience you associate with a z1 or similar. It's not as sporty as a gen I fazer, but delivers in different ways.
For me, much like the first fazer thou its the perfect Everyman bike. Which means I'm far more likely to sling on a jacket and get it out of the garage for a blast than think" ooh, I dunno, it looks like rain, there's that thing on telly I'm vaguely interested in, missus wants me to fix that bloody busted thing, don't really fancy squeezing into all me gear, it's to hot, it's too cold, it's too fucking this and that...." you know what I mean;-)
You just look at it, think "yup I fancy a gentle hoon/ lairy blast/ amble to the coast/ track day/ foreign holiday/ nip to me mums for some home made cake.." Whatever really. And also, sadly enough as It may be, I always feel cool as fuck onnit. Can't think of a better reason to have a bike than any of the above :-)

Failing that check out 261280551195 on eBay, my  luvverly but gotta go renthal fat barred 1340 busa..it's funny how we all spend money modding the bikes and getting em proper but end up having to put them back to stock to sell..bet I havta do it to this one, even though the re mapped ecu and carbon cars are far superior to running it stock with them monster exhausts that weigh as much as a bike on its own..

Sorry for the late reply, I was just mooching around the site again and came across your posts.

I'm 54 and there's nothing wrong with the old skool attitude of your CB (and the Gen 1), yours is looking good by the way - as is the Busa!! Hope you sold it ok - a mate had one and had to sell, I think he saw where it was all going to end up. I know the throttle goes both ways but we're only human.

Still fancy the 1050, I will arrange a demo I think and see if the less comfy, shorter range, lack of space to bungy, wind blasted approach settles a few things. Its the lure of the new. :lol
