Help Unusual vibration / rubbing on a 2002 foxeye
#1
Hi All,

Need some help, I have an unusual vibration / rubbing sensation coming through my left foot peg which started last week.
On sat I cleaned and checked my chain and all seams ok ie no broken or bent teeth on front or rear sprocket and no play in the front sprocket / bearing, I check the chain for the amount of stretch and noticed that I have about 140 / 145mm of stretch between 10 links (this was measured according to the Haynes manual which states about 150mm max.) I also have done approx. 24000 on this chain so I know that It will need changing very soon.
Just got back from a round trip on the motorway from Birmingham to Luton, when I got the bike in the garage I checked the back wheel and found no play in the wheel bearing and that nothing was catching when I spun the wheel, but I did notice a small squeak at a certain point which I think came from around the front sprocket area.
could this be the chain making the noise as it is almost worn out or the drive shaft bearing?
If it is the bearing what should I check for?

Cheers all

Stu

90% of the time, a knock on the left foot peg means the chain either has tight links or is at the end of its life - by the sounds of things this is the case

It would also be worth checking the front sprocket nut to make sure its still tight and isn't missing Smile

cheers mate checked the sprocket and nut the weekend and all was ok, that was along the lines of my thinking but was not sure as the last time I had to change the chain all it did was continually stretch.

Sounds like you may have had too tight or not lubed up sufficiently for it to continually stretch - by this I assume you mean excessively and rapidly as the chain will always continually stretch across its life-span Smile
