Chain and Sprocket

Just realised my front sprocket is almost round  :o . The chain is slipping on almost any throttle at any speed! I have found a new front sprocket in my garage and will fit that to see me through.
Reason for my topic, where can I buy a new chain and rear sprocket for a good price. I think I will buy an OEM front sprocket to fit with the new rear sprocket and chain.

Bikespeeduk, they do chains for all bikes always seem reasonable for postage and that.

Chains can be an absolute minefield!! I have to say for the money this combo cant be beaten!

It is from my local bike shop so I may be a bit bias but I have been using the ex srx x ring chain and jt sprockets for a few years and they are very hard wearing. I can personally recommend their service and products (if you don't want the front sprocket if you give them a ring I am sure they will sort you out!)

I was told the front sprocket is about £13?
What size nut is that on the sprocket/ Looks to be 38mm or something like that

You won't get an OE sprocket for 13 quid.  I'd guess 50 quid, might be more though.

OE spec chain is DID ZVM by the way.

    You're not wrong there, I've got to replace mine very soon and really don't know what way to go. Something is telling me to go genuine Yamaha as mine has so far lasted 32k and I've got to say apart from some slight hooking on the front has lasted remarkably well. Any more suggestions or recommendations. ?

Age getting to me so can't remember the details. Last time around I got a decent C&S set. Decided I wanted OE on front and phoned local stealer. Seem to recall that was more than I had paid for the whole set - so I lived with the DID

It's easy.  If you want OE spec chain but without paying OE prices go for DID ZVM.  After market DID ZVM  comes with the usual soft rivet link, which is absolutely fine as long as you take your time fitting.  I think the key is taking your time pushing the plates together as you assemble the link, check with a steel rule against the links and you'll know when it's just right, then spread the rivet. 

After market like Talon and Renthal are good.  The advantage of the OE front sprocket is it's much quieter than the after market stuff.

ZVM chain is not cheap though.

Plenty of other good chain out there, but figuring out what is equivalent to ZVM can be confusing.

I thought I had a spare front sprocket but it does not fit so I don't. I have ordered a chain and sprocket kit, this one http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?V...OC:GB:3160
Time will tell if it is any good. Its no great hassle changing them. Biggest issue is removing nut from front sprocket when there are no teeth to grip the chain.
Thanks to all for your input. By the way, the sprocket nut is 36mm.

It's cheap but......

I think I paid about 120 quid for my ZVM chain about 4  or 5 years ago, plus the renthal sprockets.  I think it was about 160 quid all in, and it was a good price too I thought.

A  ZVM chain, a Renthal Hard anodised rear sprocket and a Renthal front is around £180 for a set now. I think the Yamaha OEM is even more for the full set.

Plus +1 on that - I've used these guys for DID gold X- Ring chain and sprocket sets for several of my bikes and no issues. They are cheap too!

Should drop a tooth on the front sprocket....great improvement on acceleration and cheap too

Or just ride a gear lower? Not like you can accelerate particularly hard on a gen 1 in first without the front end lifting anyway!

A lower gear than first !!!!  :eek  :lol ...I have dropped a tooth on the front and been ivanised........a very big noticeable difference...see link below

Chain and sprockets delivered and fitted. Spare link also supplied. First trip this morning and no horrible sounds so that's good. It will be interesting to see how well it lasts. Very cheap so not expecting too much.
