Hello Pontypool Foccer - just bought FZ8 Fazer, touring screen and akrapovic.

My biking journey so far...

From sunny south Wales just outside of Pontypool:
 • BMWR1150R - ok but too heavy
 • CBR600F - loved it....written off by dizzy cow roughly from behind
 • Aprilia Futura RSV1000 - loved it.... flimsy plastics crap wiring great motor
 • FZ1 Fazer (2008) - bought new, loved it but too thirsty, fantastic fit and finish
 • XJR6 Diversion (2010) - fun, economical but not enough torque and a bit light-weight
 • GSXR750R - absolutely brilliant but brought out the inner lunatic, thirsty and below average build quality
 • FZ8 Fazer (2013) akrapovic - got there in the end!!!!
So, seven bikes later and I've actually arrived at the right bike for me. I was initially put off my luke warm reviews and the thought of castrating a FZ1 seemed all wrong. However, I popped in to South Wales Superbikes and was persuaded to take the demonstrator out for a blast in the pissing rain at the weekend. It was a revelation -  nimble but stable and offering all of the advantages of my much missed FZ1 without the disadvantages. I sold the FZ1 because the performance whilst stunning was only accessible at license shredding speeds. Below the ton I found that it was very thirsty and I was spending a fortune on tyres. The FZ8 is the best kept secret in biking... I have been looking at the Triumph Street Triple but found it too be a bit delicate and lacking presence. I'm really glad to be back on a Fazer...

I'm sure the new Yamaha triple will be special - but I rather like the idea of being in an exclusive club of FZ8 enthusiasts for the forseable.

Welcome Mr Wasp, always good to have another welsh resident in the club, hardly any members in the south west though although i have seen a few out & about.

Ive only had my 600 a year & i absolutely love it but i do think the fz8 be the perfect compromise for me if i ever upgraded in terms of age.

Im sure i read somewhere that the fz8 is very popular on the continent & it seems that yamaha intend to keep making it so although not too common in the uk it is a success.

If you havent seen it yet theres the option to stick your location on the members map, handy for ride outs.if your mates are ever abscent & you fancy a rideout theres also an events & meets section.im up for seeing some more good welsh routes as im not originally from these parts.

Anyway enjoy the site, & love thy  :faz 8) 8) 8)
Easiest way to go fast........don't buy a blue bike

They don't get much news on the site (yet) but will.

Thanks for the warm welcome folks, very much appreciated.

Picked up the bike yesterday so doing a bit of gentle running-in. The Akrapovics are tasty without being overly raucous!! I'm well chuffed and up for a scratch with local valley dwellers.

Cheers!!

Hi mate,

Have a look at the Fazer 8 thread, I've posted a picture on there.

I really wanted a black Fazer 8 so went for a deal on a 2011 model which they were looking to clear. They have various options. I was tempted by a 2013 unfaired in black and white but a test ride convinced me that I need a fairing for the daily commute.

They have a demonstrator in white with an Akrapovic can which I test rode. The free breathing pipe releases a decent chunk of mid range, sounds great and pops and bangs on the over-run.... lovely!!

They have the full range of colours. Go down and see Dave... say that Scott sent you. I'm really pleased with it. My brother in law has a fazer6 which is great fun. I find that I don't have to work quite as hard as him on the 800. I don't miss my FZ1 and haven't really wound the FZ8 up yet as I'm still running it in.

Good luck, great weekend for a test ride let me know how you get on.
