What can I clean this staining off with..?
#21
Went back today and as predicted the son of the owner got all aggressive and started shouting saying it was my fault.... After wasting my time trying to talk some sense into him, another guy interrupted the proceedings (one of the owners of the business) and he fessed-up and confirmed it WAS traffic film remover! After a quick chat with him he told me the main boss was at the other car wash place so off I went.

Long story short, I explained there are now only two options try cut or get replacement covers. We tried a bit of original t-cut (red cap) on it and we couldn't tell for sure if it helped, so I said I would try some t-cut myself and if this didn't work we agreed I would go back and could come an arrangement which in this instance is half the cost of what second hand covers of ebay would cost.

I them popped of to Halfords and borrowed some brake cleaner and a rag and cleaned the area where the guy had rubbed some t-cut to clean of the shine and one of the most noticable dribble stains appears to be gone! So I bought some black colour-match t-cut and some back-to-black for the pastics and will have a go on Sunday.

Watch this space.

Yer, I am really hoping the t-cut tomoz does the job as I'm quite particular about the finish on the bike. If it doesen't then there is the inevitable haggling I know the guy will try on and if that fails its £35 (claims upto £500) to file it with the small claims court.

just ask him if he is registered as a business with the inland revenue, then take photos on your phone of each person working there. Im guessing he will soon offer to sort it!!!

They have been there for years, but if I am forced down that route I will check with the IR (but if Im honest I'd rather not be as its some ones livelihood etc)

I use holts brake cleaner to remove dirt and stains and have never had any problems with damaging paintwork.
If it's broken, it's not fixed.

I wonder if Trading Standards would be the right people to approach regarding redress on this?

Had a go this afternoon with t-cut colour restor (want to be gentle to begin with) and apart from being too glossy for my liking(I would like to find a way to reduce this, brake cleaner?) half of the staining has gone. But some sections are gonna need going over with original red cap t-cut.

You could try some diluted IPA to remove it, but I would just wait and save the hassle, the gloss enhancers will wash off on their own over time Smile
