FZ1 'lower' risers
#1
Just fitted the lower bar clamps to my fz1 with the original flat bars. It was just to get a bit more of a sporty stance as I thought the originals were a little too high. Its lowered the bars by about 2".

First ride impressions are pretty good. The bike seems to want to corner more sportsbike-like, but it could well be in my head.

Clearance is a bit tight in places, but everything clears the bits they should clear.

I was going to widen the bars slightly too, just waiting for my bar ends to come back from the machinist. Somehow I don't think ill manage it with the clearance 'issues'.

I'm going to test them over the next few weeks, and ill let you know if there are any problems

Took her for a 120 mile thrash out, and the bars seemed fine......... If they weren't bent! Previous owner must have dropped the bike and bent them a little.

Had a change if heart in the lowering bit, and now one for widening instead.

Well I've put the original risers back on, and put single caps on the top, I think they look better, but that's just opinion.

The extended bar ends are here, and look the dogs doodahs!

All the cabling fits, apart from the throttle cables needed to be released from the wire clip on the yoke, that's all.

Here's the finished product. They've gone from a puny 670mm wide, to 760mm wide without bar ends, much better! Ill go for a ride as soon as it stops raining.:Smile

Am surprised you wanted to go with even wider bars then the standard ones  :eek
Having wide bars like that fitted most be like having a pair of panners fitted 24/7...

I still miss the small narrow gaps I could safely squeeze my old R1 through but where my FZ1 handlebars are far to wide to get through.. Wink

Well I cut 30mm off each end of my Renthals. Are your mirrors of any use now.
I can understand you trying something different though.

Just been for a bit of a ride to the local to meet an old friend. The bike handled much like my old R1 fighter (that had 800mm wide bars). Much comfier for me, and seemed to add the 'precision' to the steering that I wanted. Mirrors seemed pretty much the same as before. Well chuffed!

Its just because of my gibbon length arms that I need the extra reach. I shouldn't be such a lanky tw@!

Sorry to drag up an old thread, just wondering what 'lower risers' you used. I feel like the bars are too high, not sure I want to go 2" lower though. Worried about clearance issues with the suspension adjusters, esp with the forks raised 7mm through the yokes.

I've had to change the set up again due to finding out my standard bars were bent!

I've got a set of WRP fatbars with about 20mm risers now, but tbh they're a bit too low and induce wrist ache after 100 miles or so.

I've just raised them up another 25mm with spacers, and they're much better! Just be careful that you don't go too low, it starts to effect the steering in an odd way!

That looks so much better than the standard risers!

I only want to go about an inch lower to start with. One option iI was thinking of was straighter bars (than the standard ones), won't be any lower, but more of a lean forward. My son races a CB500 with straight Renthals, might have to try his spare bars.

Couple of questions.
What risers have you used, aftermarket or from another Yam model?
I notice you haven't got any bar ends now, do the standard ones not fit aftermarket bars?

Thanks.

Yeah speed triple risers are about 2" high, just been stood next to a striple. Nice!
As for hat risers I've used, well I've tried 20mm risers and the standard bars, standard risers and extended bars, and now I've just raised my fat bars up with spacers I made from the bits I chopped off each end of the bars.
The low bars look ace, but the standard height works best tbh, but with my bar extenders to take the bars from 700mm ish, to 760mm. That's ideal for me.
Don't go too low, it starts to get painful on the wrists.

Yeah, that's why I got my FZ1, R1 was getting too painful on long journeys. Somewhere between the R1 and Fz1 would be about right.

I did this to my old R1 which made it all day comfy. Best bike I ever had! (fz1 comes a very close second now I've tuned it)
