HP Laser printer
#1
Anyone got experience with HP colour laser printers.
The black came up with the usual getting low messages and then very low print may fade message.
It tells me this every 100 pages some 400 pages ago and still it's printing. Is this normal or do I have a magic toner cartridge!

The red one is looking like it's empty according to the display so will that do the same I wonder?

They want to sell you cartridges! They and other manufactures have been criticised for using dodgy tactics.

Now-a-days the cartridges have little chips in them that interact with the printer.

Older ones would warn you to buy new ones when you didn't really need them (yet).

Some newer ones even have expiry dates built in that will switch the cartridge off even if it's not empty!

Some of the high end hp printers will mix the colours to substitute the black ink... meaning it still prints ok ish but at the cost of your colour cartridge. (Hence so low on red)
Cheapest to replace the black soon as

That did cross my mind, but if I print a black and white page it only makes one pass and not a 4 colour pass, prehaps I should take the black cartridge out and shake it to tell, but would the printer then not let me put a used one back in?

Ahh, RTFM and all is revealed!

When a print cartridge approaches the estimated end of its useful life, you can continue printing with
the current print cartridge until it no longer yields acceptable print quality.

Bet it runs out tomorrow now :lol

Once it starts fading, take it out, shake it and stick it back in.  Keep doing this until it stays faded, then replace it Big Grin
