Just got hold of a fox eye model but it hasn't run for 5 years, I'm obviously gonna drain the fuel and stick in some fresh fuel I was looking at this silkolene fuel additive that's like redex, the guy in m and p reckons it will sort out the carbs without having to get in there and clean them out, any one used this or recommend another similar product?
Some songs are very very long, but this one isn't !
Yep, it's called ProFST, only stuff I've used that seems to actually make a noticeable difference, its worth giving it a go, if that don't work then you know it's a strip the carbs job!

Who makes it? Cos I'm gonna hunt some down

The only one that has ever noticeably worked wonders for any of my bikes before was one that i used recently, STP Complete Fuel System Cleaner, after it was recommended on here to give it a go.
I was very surprised at the general feel of the bike after i used a bottle over two tanks of fuel, to the point of actually being quite impressed by it.
I've tried most of the fuel additives over the years and i felt no difference at all with any of the others.

Fuchs silkolene pro fst, I've only ever used it when having carb icing problems,
For your circumstances Darrsi's stuff sounds good too!

Activ8 ? Hehe
Just flapping about on this stagnant little pond on the outer rim of the internet.....yup.... :-))

99% Isopropyl Alcohol for carb icing, about £16 for 5 litres on Ebay.
Add 200ml per full tank of fuel and carb icing is history if your bike is unfortunate enough to suffer from it.
It will bind with any water in your tank then simply burn it off as fuel, and also lowers the freezing point anyway of water so icing doesn't happen.
I tried the Pro FST and found it to be way over priced at £15 for one litre, plus it didn't really do the job.
As a general engine cleaner STP Complete Fuel Treatment was a definite winner, just split the one bottle over two full tanks of fuel and you get a thorough clean up, i was very happy with the results

Now, now, you start putting the fabulous Activ8 in you fuel tank and it'll be like trying to light a wet cigarette :lol

I'd run it on straight, fresh fuel first, without additives, and see how it goes, esp as it hasn't run for 5 years.
Carbs will likely be dirty with the old fuel (if the fuel has been drained, rust on the inside of the tank is possible).
I wouldn't use additives as a means to avoid a carb clean; if they need stripping, they need stripping.
What mileage is on it?

It does what it says on the bottle, it's all in the title!!

It's only done 13000 miles and the old fuel is still in it never drained.

After 5 years one would assume the carbs are gummed up to buggery, looks like a strip and ultrasonic bath!

For some strange reason i simply didn't see the 5yr thing? :rolleyes

Put a new battery on, thought I would press the button and see what would happen, and it started :eek 5 year old petrol and haven't chucked any additives in yet, running smooth it is to now for some fresh petrol and an additive just to be safe.

If you think it's running smooth on 5yr old fuel then things are only gonna get better mokin
