Bike took a tumble while I was in Halfords
#1
So I was in Halfords the other day, looking for something to seal a small hole in my rad hose, when I heard my bike alarm going off outside.  Walked out to the carpark to see my bike now on it's centre stand (I left it on the side stand) and a guy stood next to it.
Turns out, some matey had tried to reverse in to a spot without looking, which happened to be the same bay my bike was occupying.

Looked for damage on the side the bike fell on, but couldn't find anything obvious, and tried to start the bike up (didn't start right away, but after a couple of go's it did start up and hasn't had any trouble starting since).
I had a bit of a chat with the guy and asked for his details (name, mobile number, registration), but once I tried to phone the number he gave me, he quickly told me that was his wife's phone, and gave me a new mobile number with a single different digit!

Anyway, main point of this post was to see if anyone else had had a similar experience, and any potential damage I should be looking for that might not be obvious (This was on an FZS600 btw).
The thing I'm really concerned about is that I might have some internal damage, that will rear it's head in a few months time - does anyone think I might be able to get the interns of the bike checked by a garage, and have him foot the bill?

Any other stories about knocked over bikes or similar are welcome Smile
Thanks!

Same thing happened to my first Fazer in the work car park, feel for you!

The fairing has little lugs on the inside of the sides which grip it to the fairing inner panels (the infills in front of your knees).  You wouldn't notice at first glance but these may have snapped off (gently pull the side of the fairing outwards and see if it comes away from the inners at all).

I don't think being knocked over would damage any mechanicals internally, but I stand to be corrected.

with the bike being on its side the float bowls would have drained ....hence taking a while to start, could of possibly cracked engine covers but highly unlikley....check for small scuffs on indicators and cracks around their mountings (fairing) end can,bar weights and foot rests....do you have crash bungs fitted ?
One, is never going to be enough.....

Mirrors, bar end, exhaust, footpegs, hand and foot levers usually hit first.  Often an engine cover and indicator.  Your fairing may have hit.  Any topbox?

Things to look out for:
- bent levers
- bent bars (the std ones are made of cheese)
- bent bars hitting the tank
- lockstops crushed so the bars turn a bit further than normal (not a big issue unless combined with the previous point)
- forks twisted in the yoke.
- bent exhaust mount / footpeg hanger

To be honest a drop off the stand isn't  all that bad, usually it is cosmetic rather than any mechanical issues.  The cosmetic stuff can be really expensive though.

Mine has been banged twice in works car park, cosmetic stuff (eye-watering expensive), but no mechanical issues. That said, I did let the bike sit for 45 mins on each occasion to let fluids settle. 3rd party's insurance paid out on both incidents.

Happened to me once years ago and since then I don't park in car spaces but if I have to I always make sure I park it so that the back of the bike is sticking out past the cars around it and I also leave it in gear so if some genius still manages to drive into it it's got a chance of staying up

More than likely cracked the fairing around the indicators and possible slightly bent levers.

I give you fair warning though-
if you claim through insurance you will get bitten in the arse, yes it's a non fault accident but your premium. Will be beefed up when you come to renew, doesn't matter if you go through your insurance or his, if its cosmetic I highly recommend trying to get cash from the driver and do not inform your insurance,  everyone loses out.

I know this because I have 4 non fault accidents in the last 5 years- 1 of which was a black cab drove into my bike whilst it was parked, I was no where near it,  but because of these claims,  all of which were through the other persons insurance not mine my premiums have not only become extortionate but I was also refused any insurance from anyone on my SRAD 750 which is why I had to sell it and get my current fazer!!!
Some say...
