no button start

as some of you know I've had a gremlin in my bike
with it not starting on the button,  is it possible to wire the start button
to the two thin wires so it starts on the button again ?

Cheers darris. does anyone know how to bypass the ignition switch or know where the black wire
goes from the start button

from the starter button the black wire goes to ground, but on the connector on the bike side there are 2 black wires 1 being the ground and the other connects to the blue/white on the switch side...... it is this black wire that should have 12 volts on it which gets shorted to zero when you push the starter button.
this 12 volts tho goes through the alarm connector and also the saftey cut off system that relies on your center stand switch working correctly and also the neutral switch.
bypassing the ignition will not help in any way if the problem is within the alarm or safety cut off circuit.
will the bike start if you bump start it??

Yes and if I use a Alan key on the starter relay it starts

Have you checked the connectors in the box under the tank? The handlebar switches all join the main wiring loom there and it's often the cause of things not working.

yes i agree with stoobie, check the connections under the tank.
if you disconnect the 6 pin connector from the starter button, use a multimeter across the black and blue/white wires and make sure you get a short circuit when you press the starter button, if not you may need to open the switch housing and clean the contacts of the starter button itself.
atleast the problem is not in the alarm or cut off circuit cos that could be a pita if your not that familiar with electrics.

Well it's all new every thing to do with the starting

I'd remove the alarm and return the wiring to as it was from the factory.

I had a bike in that would cut the ignition randomly when the owner was riding it. I think alarms are more problems than they are worth.

because it will start when bumped and when you short the starter relay it is not the alarm or any of the saftey cut out switches, if you have replaced both the relays it only leaves the starter button its self or the 2 wires coming from it!
definately check the switch with a multimeter if you can or find a mate that can help you. the wiring diagram is in the haynes manual in the download section that will help.

Adam I'm getting there mate , it has to be somewhere between the plug
and the starter relay . who knows it just might go away on it's own fingers crossed

They can be very unreliable and most have a life span i.e. internal batteries the earlier types this couldn't be replaced.  That said from my experience it's very dependant on who fits them a lot are not fitted correctly, some are so poorly wired in they are as good as useless.

I find a self contained VERY loud unit that detects movement and a really visible good quality locks are best.  If you live or have to park in a really doggy area remove the ignition box in the tail hump bike will not start no matter what and it's a simple plug and play
