Yo guys. Wrong place an that (again) so sorry but I have a major issue ahead of the springmeet amd really need some major help major quick.
Apologies
I posted this on the gixxer forum. If anyone here has any ideas, I'm open to 'em
Y2k 750y clutch issue
Hi folks, long time no see. Hope you are all well. Finally trying to get this 750 on the road and been hit with a few issues.
It has not run for about a year or so until the other day, after fitting new battery, runs fine in neutral.Oil was horrible so changed it.
I had it running and in first gear down the road and back before the old alarm issue killed it (since removed and runs fine as above) some time back so I know 1st has engaged in the pastSo, new oil and went to put into 1st and it jerked forward and stalled. I've adjusted clutch at lever, fully out and also took side off to adjust at sprocket cover. It can go so heavy that I can barely pull the lever so I reckon the cable is ok. I've loosened it back off a bit. Tried the locknut screw on the sprocket cover behind the rubber as per the haynes manual and it has made no difference. What I can gather from a google search is that the clutch plates may be stuck together and therefore will require stripping and cleaning. Sometimes this can be due to oil change and type of oil used apparently.
Before I do any more invasive stuff, has anyone encountered this previously?
Worst case scenario, I'll remove it all and do it the way the haynes says but I'm hoping one of you more learned folks may have experienced something like this before. Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated
Smell ones mother. Yaas!
Defo sounds like the plates sticking together if you've tried the other obvious bits. If is been sat for a year, moisture could have possibly turned the steel plates rusty, and stuck them to the friction plates. Its not too bad a job, just go by the Haynes manual.

Sounds like stevies pretty confident but just incase you havent seen his post, i do believe that recently joined up to the forum "punkstig" has a gsxr750,plus he's a courier & does mega miles so he could be worth asking if all else fails.
Easiest way to go fast........don't buy a blue bike
I had this exact problem on my Fazer when I changed over the clutch plates. I had three issues if I remember correctly; the 1st was that I bought stiffer EBC clutch springs which were just too damn tight but luckily found a spare set of OEM, the 2nd was having the clutch plates in the wrong order - one of them has a larger internal diameter to fit OVER the anti-judder spring which I didn't realise, and the 3rd issue was not lining up the pressure plate with the clutch basket.
Now even after I sorted these issues out, the clutch would slip a little (opposite problem) and this continued for probably a week or so when it was cold - once warmed up the issue went away. This was back in February and I've done over 2k miles since and there is no sign of the clutch slipping at all anymore. Hopefully the Gixxer is as straight forward as the Fazer so my advice is to methodically check over the plates, clean them up and pop them all back in. If you can get the clutch to where its soo tight you can hardly move it then I'd suggest taking a close look at the pressure plate to make sure its seating properly.
Yup, probably the plates sticking. When you remove the basket look at the wear on the sides of the inner and outed baskets were the plates make contact. You will see lots of little grooves worn into the soft ally basket sides. Be prepared for the most tedious job in history... dressing out those little grooves with a small file! Easy enough to do, and a lot cheaper than a new basket, hut what a boring job.
Well looks like it will have to come off then. There shouldn't be a lot of wear, only 14k on clock. Had to cancel tomorrows MOT

I don't know if this applies to the GSXR or not but Dead-eye and youtube were quite informative when I was looking at the Fazer clutch plates out of curiousity. It may be that if you put the bike on the side stand you may not need to drain the oil out of it whist 'operating' on it.

"Anyway, while we have in the past carried out a perfectly successful clutch change on a sickly GSX-R600 by leaning the bike against a wall in the Donington Park paddock and not draining the oil"
Worth thinking about before you get started anyway.
Opinions are like A**holes, Everyone has one. Some people seem to have more than one though which is a bit odd.
Ok cheers for the help folks. I got the bike on paddock stand and let it heat up to 100 odd degrees. Kicked it into 1st. Success. Into 2nd. Success. Took it round the block. Success. Until it wasn't. Cut out kicking it into 1st as I approached the driveway. Flashing oil light. Fuel pump not priming when ignition turned on, or at least some kind of suction through pipe but possibly restricted. Pinched tube? I would think so but how would it run for so long and only become an issue out around the block. Maybe its sat static so long that moisture in the tank has made some rust and its got in there. Hmm.
Back on stand, tank up, all fine now apparently. Possibly something in the filter has been dislodged and now roaming free in tank. Hmm.
One thing is for sure, I'm not fuckin taking the pump off cos thats a tank off and empty job.
Also need the flasher relay replaced as the blinkers are doing one normal flash then superfast after. One is on the way and should be here friday.
Hey, at least the clutch aint stuck
