Right then,another aldi special on review.


Is this crap any good for chains, of the motorbike variety?


Spoke to my dad & he says its a pile o shite,dont put it on yur chain,you'll foc yur chain bla bla bla,he hasnt actually seen it though.


To be honest when he went into dad mode i switched off a bit but I suspect he may be right.


But i like to give things a chance & it could be the shizny


Any thoughts?

I used my old engine oil in my oiler for years, and it worked fine and saved my chains.
I'm pretty sure most oils will lube your chain I'm one way or another, but it more than likely won't bugger it. I couldn't download your photo to see it. Is it engine oil, or just a general purpose oil?

Just seen it now. I've used 3 in 1 oil on chains before, found it a bit thin and flings off. In the rain it wouldn't last 5 minutes, but it certainly won't do it Amy harm.

is it meant more for the use on push bikes as apposed to main use on motorbikes  ?

i also figure as its ALDI and generally german made its usually good (cheap but good ) stuff over all

As above maybe it ll be thin but maybe worth a shot in absence of anything else

Ive tried 3 times to get that pic the right way round & i give up :rolleyes


The stuff ive been using was from the old man & was some kind of crazy teflon white stuff,real thick,hardly ever needed replenished but was the remains of his old can, i thought i was being smart when i seen that aldi stuff.


Anyhoo i might jus go google & try find some o that same stuff.


I shouldnt say this but i dont really give a shit about my chains life coz i dont know its history, id rather get a new chain & sprockets & nut & start from scratch instead of the old second guessing how old or how well looked after things were but for the time being ill enjoy whats left of it & change it all in the winter & until then i might just get by with ye olde 3 in 1. 8)

Fling!!!!


If it is like what i tried from Halfrauds it covered the rear end of the bike, flung off everywhere, like it had been sprayed.


I would stick to non fling proper,like wax

Everything has its pros and cons, oil/ spray lube will fling off the chain to some extent making a mess,
Wax/ grease will attract dirt turning into a grinding paste which will wear away seals and links!

I`ve used PTFE lube for donkeys years from my time in the forklift game....the lads used it on the lift chains etc.
Put it on the day/night before the ride it should thicken up as the solvent evaporates....

Cool,sounds a plan,ill do it after a run when the chains hot then let it settle overnight. 8)

It's '3in1' so a well known brand, but not suitable for motorbike chains - as said it's too thin and will wssh off/fling off in no time.
