Another (hopefully different) insurance question - declaring modifications
#1
Hi All.  Insurance is coming up for renewal in the next 3 weeks and I'm about to start looking round for quotes.  If seen from other posts that some companies will take note of any mods, without them affecting the premium.

What I'd like to know is which companies do this, and which don't (or should be avoided anyway)

TIA

I declared several modifications to my bike after the policy started with Bennetts and they never charged me anything additional for it Smile

This included top box, aftermarket exhaust, heated grips - standard stuff imo

I'm with Hastings, the've always been ok, accepted the slip on exhaust and the Ivanising when I had the Thou.
Only mods on my Fazer8 were rack and bungs so not really a "mod", just value as accessories. I've just stuck a Mivv on the 8 and will tell them at renewal. I don't expect a problrm.  Smile

Standard stuff (heated grips / topbox), no difference to Aviva's price, just "tell us as / when you get them so that they're covered".

Depends on how heavily modded it is, and the nature of the mods; ultimately by buying insurance you're asking the insurer to pay out for it when disaster strikes, so I tend to declare them (and their value).

You'll probably find that they're not covered, if they get damaged in an accident they'll be replaced with standard parts (which probably cost more  :rolleyes ) unless agreed otherwise.

They still need to know though or they won't necessarily pay out in the event of a claim.

I've done a lot of big modifications on my FJ12 which include removing the ABS, changing the wheels, swingarm, shock, etc, etc.

Swinton wouldn't touch it but Adrian Flux were more than happy to cover it with all the mods declared. Because it is so modified I also had to send 3 photos. The service was great and price very competitive.

My Fazer also has a few mods but nothing as serious i.e. seat, screen, wingrack, renthals, heated grips, 1000 rear caliper, etc. Again, no problem with Adrian Flux.

Flux was who I used for my 200sx, they were fine with an extra 100bhp and converting from automatic to manual Smile
