tail panel replacement
#1
I´ve just received a tail panel through the post to replace the one the last owner cracked.

it´s a 99model.

i thought it´d be simple to disengage but it seems to be stuck with glue or something.

i´ve removed all the screws that i can see (one right at the back and one in the two more towards the front. i´ve also removed a line of rubber that connects the two bits of plastic nas so with all that removed i thought i should just be able to wiggle it free. but no.

anyone ever doen this? i got nervous and didn´t want to force things.

ta for any advice

Are they not clipped in?
Look on the new panel for fixing points.

Can you upload any pics so I know for sure which panel is in question and don't give faulty advice?

If it's the middle one it will require some brute force if I remember correctly. When I had my panels painted I recall taking it off and it really sounded like some of the plastic snapped when doing it, but in the end it was just a very tight fit and the panel remained intact. It was a bit tough to get it back on too.

pics tomorrow.

i'm trying to seperate the left side tail panel from the middle panel.

looking at the replacement panel there are no more scews just slots but it is so bloody tough that when yanking i started to get scared and thought it might be glued or that i might break the plastic so i thought i'd get on here and ask for your tips before snapping any hard to find plastic!!

Oh yeah, now I know what you mean. You'll have to take the whole back end fairing off. Even though they look like separate pieces, the 2 side panels are bolted onto the middle panel from the underside.

So first undo the 3 bolts (if I remember correctly) on each side panel. Then you'll have to gently wriggle and flex the fairing unit off the back end. Flip it over and there'll 2 bolts per side panel holding it to the middle panel. Undo those and then you'll get to the part I was talking about in my first reply. In addition to the bolts the panels are kind of overlapping and hence a bit tricky to get separated. Just be careful and don't go full power at once.  Wink
