only just got my fazer 1000 04, what sort of results do you get from just the can and filter change, noticable power gain or just louder!
race can and a k+n

Wouldn't advise it without doing an ivans kit.
Others will go in to more detail but that's the only way to go if you want bang for your buck.

+1 Ivan's is absolutely the way to go.

i dont realy want to go as far as re jetting, ive had bandits etc jetted pod filters etc, just wondered if a can and filter would give it a little bit more, and for the looks of the can.

i agree that ivans is the way to go.., But fitting a can and k+n will probably help slightly, but probably not too much......
If it's broken, it's not fixed.

If you don't want to rejet, go with just the can.
Stock jetting is marginally lean low-mid range, a shade rich at full throttle. A less restrictive air filter will make the lean bits worse. A less restrictive can will pick up a few bhp from the richer fuelling at the top end. Do it right, though - ie, Ivanise - and you get the full benefits of both mods across the entire rev band. We're talking 136bhp plus vs 122bhp stock (Full Monty) or 130bhp with the basic Slip-On kit option.

Can u ride the bike near its limit or your limit? R u a commuter, w/end blaster, track day pilot? Will u keep the bike for its life or your's? Many questions we'd all like the answers to. For me at the mo my bike is fast enuff.

Just flapping about on this stagnant little pond on the outer rim of the internet.....yup.... :-))
It's a no brainer mate for less then the price of a good quality end can you can fit an Ivan's kit the bike is transformed.
There are options to the level of gains you want so you don't get intimidating unseable power if you dont want it, what you get is a real world release of what is already there to a level that suits you. That said it only goes as fast as you twist the throttle! A very nice man on here goes by the name of Falcon 269, may even be able to fit it for you he's over in May why not drop him a line see if he can help you.

yup thats the brilliance of the ivans kit over say the dynojet kit that i had fitted when i brought the bike. normal jetting kits focus on BHP gains where as the ivans kit, although no slouch on BHP gains gives you such a useable power deliver opening up from 3k- red line it just flows the snatchy and almost unridable dyno kit i had on only started to come alive at 6-7k below that it ws just stuttery and flat.
why its like that others can tell you as i just ride it i dont want to understand it ![]() but as said by others the bike runs a touch lean at some revs so leaning it further with the filter wont do much and wont do it much good either. stick to a less restrictive can to gain 1-4bhp but dont put in a KnN or other race filter like BMC unless you go the full hog anything more than that and ivans is the only way to go. either slip on or full monty.

Ivans kit gives the bike more low down omph as well as a bit up top.
Also it much reduces vibration and rids the bike of the horrible low speed/high gear surging that the standard set up suffers. Frankly getting rid of that surging is the best bit of the Ivans kit. If you don't fancy fitting it yourself speak to Mike (Falcon 269) and see if he's doing any Ivanising meets this year. He's a nice fella and does a top job.

the fazers for doing a bit of touring on, my other bikes heavily modded so i just want a can for the fazer at the moment. off to germany in july and fuel economys high on the list. then over winter :evil

+1 for Ivan's here too and welcome to Fazer ownership. One of the best bikes ever made, but even better with Ivan's jet kit!
I didn't even bother with an end can (I like to speed inconspicuously and quietly!) and it transforms the bike and makes it much more pleasant to ride. If you've had bad experiences with jet kits before or thought they don't do a lot, I can assure you Ivan's kits are in a different league. You get perfect fuelling, much better throttle response, it's smoother, doesn't need as much choke, a good dollup of extra power in the low to mid, an extension to the power curve at high revs and at just over £100 and 3 hours to fit, it's a better spend than an end can. Although, end can + Ivan's is the ultimate. You don't need dyno time or anything either, just fit it and enjoy. Jeezuz. You'd think we're all on commission the way we go on about it round here! (joke, it really is worth every penny) http://www.ivansperformanceproducts.com/fz1.htm

Before the ivan kit I fitted a race can and it totally killed the mid range, never tried a KN on my thou though.

Mines got a stubby can on, standard filter and as far as I'm aware no Ivans, it does get the surging and the snatchy throttle, but doesn't have a flat spot!
It also was doing 130 bhp on the dyno, I would like to get the ivans kit fitted just to get rid of the surging, but if it gives a bit extra power...... .woo hoo ![]() Don't think putting a can on by it self will make a massive difference, but it will make it sound fruitier ![]()

My 05 thou was smooth before the ivan kit ,at worst I had inconsistant starting and was a bit flat at around 4000 revs. I should think it possible to sort out the surging without the expense of the jet kit

Fit a Quill T3 end can and a K&N filter. Then get a Fully done.
It will be worth every penny Tim

akrapovic is what i usually use, got a full system on my other bike just ordered a can for the fazer, just my preferance, quill exhausts is 5miles down the road from me. they have a dyno ive used a few times.
