Nightshift
#41
Creatures of the night- mind take yur vitamin D...its widely believed that most folk in the uk are vitamin D defficient & almost definately night workers since we rarely see daylight even when it does appear.vitamins are controversial but i firmly believe shift workers need them as the body is put under extra stresses.

Another tip for staying alert on a night shift-go to the gym before.a good metabolically challenging all body workout about 45 minutes to an hour will raise yur metabolism for 14 hrs afterwards so instead of slumping & fighting sleep you'll feel alert & youll want to fuel up with quality grub instead o Ginsters.by the time the shift ends you're fully fuelled & ready to repair.

Stay on yur feet as much as possible during a night shift & try to best trick yur body into thinking it's day time,im sat in a control tower for 13 hour night shifts,i cant leave the building except to piss,i wont sit for any longer than 20 minutes at a time,i prefer to keep all the lights on to simulate the day but my colleagues tend to go dark & put on the heating which i feel is perfect for feeling dozy.

Always make sure you repay the sleep debt built up over the shifts, even if it means having 11 hours kip on 1 of yur days off, thats my excuse today Big Grin

Haha,

As for keeping the lights on and not being too warm... Working in a care home which is at a constant 22 degrees + with lights off to encourage our residents to sleep doesn't help me... haha.

It wouldn't be fun if it was easy, I just wish it wasn't this much fun.

It's fine, I'm only contracted for two nights a week, I quite often do an extra one or two here and there, but It's fine for me. Plenty time off to recover!  Big Grin

Chris you soon wont have any time to work, what with being the Shetland Isles  :faz specialist & Foc-u affiliate Confusedmokin . The Shetlands Fazer contingent will hunt you down, all 3 of them :lol , & theres hardly anywhere to hide, the more posts you tally up, the more they'll hunt you, you'll be like a haggis running round & round a hill with 1 leg shorter than the other. You have been warned!!! :evil :evil :evil

No more night shifts for me. But now on splits so start at 0700 finish at 1300 then back on from any where between 1530 to 1800 until 2200, with 7 on 2 off then 2 on 3 off. I is a royal bottom wiper in the community now. But due to pattern it can get a little tiring at times as I is also on call.

HAHAHA!! Thanks Frazer! I'll keep that in mind! Haha, pretty sure i'm the only Shetlander on here but there are certainly a few fazers on the island. I'll try and get a few more members when the bikers rally is on in June. If you've never been to the simmer dim rally then you are missing out!

Been pretty flat out here tonight so probably won't be on here much. Enjoy your last night on Farjo!

Question - Does anyone else have days off between nightshifts, and if so do you go back to daytime living or stay nocturnal?

Question - Does anyone else have days off between nightshifts, and if so do you go back to daytime living or stay nocturnal?

I do, I've been on tonight (friday night) and am on again Monday night but i'll sleep till lunch time tomorrow (saturday - still tomorrow in my head even though i'm almost 4 hours into saturday) and get a normal nights sleep saturday night and sunday night then a long lie on Monday morning till half 11 or maybe 12 then do my nightshift on monday.

So to answer your question, if it's more than one night off in between then no I don't stay on nightshift time i'll kick my clock back around but if it's just one night inbetween then i'll stay on night mode.

Hope that makes sense...  :z  :lol

As I work 3 different shifts (earlies, lates, nights) with only a day or two between them I have little choice. :-\
Although after a set of nights I too sleep only a few hours and just walk round like a zombie with jet lag for the first day off. It can't be good for your health (and I've got to keep this up 'till I'm 55???) :-[

Yes, sometimes I question how good this kicking my body clock in the head is but this is the happiest I've ever been with my work/life balance. When I used to be on full time day shifts consisting of earlies and lates then I just felt like I was at work all the time and it made me take my work home with me which was horrible. Doing nights means I've dropped a few hours overall but enhanced pay for unsocial hours almost makes that a negligible difference especially because I do a few extra shifts here and there but only when I want too.

Because the shifts are longer 12 hours instead of the 7.5 hour day shifts then I get all my work out the way quicker too and therefore have much more time to do things I like, eg, work on my bike, speak to you lot  :eek etc etc  8)
