Ear plugs / bluetooth / comms

This isn't one for the "I don't use ear plugs" crowd :-).

The earplugs I have are okay, but I'm looking for something better. I figure that whilst I look it's good to future proof.

Any input on moulded ear plugs (reviews, opinions, brands)

Also interested in ones with actual headphones in and/or bluetooth..

I use proplugs as I had a set when I was working as a sound tech at concerts and when playing drums they're a generic moulded ear plug but they have lots of sizes and i've not met anyone that hasn't found them to be as near as makes no difference to personal customised ear plugs. And they only only cost about £10 - £15 instead of ten times that which is what you might pay for a custom set. You can get non-vented and vented which cut out more or less noise respectively, the vented ones are more than enough. They also do a range that headphones can be inserted into. Enjoy  8)

ear plugs popped up in an earlier post,can't remember the outcome though, i seem to get problems with them & would love an alternative to using nothing,

a search online for alternatives produced 'ear canal caps' which i'm tempted to try as they don't fully go into the ear but instead block off the entrance, not quite as effective at noise reduction as plugs but then still offer the ability to hear something rather than totally losing one of the senses.

problem i can see is that they have a plastic, albeit small head band which ensures the pressure and keeps them against the ears & im dubius as to having hard plastic so close to the head in an impact.

the same idea but using a thin fabric head band could work but they dont seem to exist.

Hi I am waiting for my "squidgy" earplugs from Ultimate Ear. Had moulds taken at MCN Show last month. Will let you know what the result of the first use is. Maybe a few weeks. Regards Mike

We had bespoke moulded ones made for us at work and I swear by them. Don't even know they're in, wear them for ages without pain, at the same time they don't make you completely deaf. I have no idea how much they would cost to buy but if money isn't issue I'd definitely go for them.
P.S. Is it just me or does wearing earplugs make you ride faster?

I have two pair of custom ear plugs one from http://www.earfuze.com/store.html and the other i made from :-

and some cheap earphone buds from tesco. Wore the earfuze ones all day sunday, 250 plus miles,  the earfuze putty seems better quaility than the ebay stuff better sound proofing both very comfy though.

I used to use a Vixen backchat system for coms then switched over to autocom now I have http://www.cardosystems.com/scala-rider/scala-rider-g4

Great bit of kit basicly only changed as my brother changed his system to the G4 so I needed to change great quality works well on range for intercom (bluetooth) radio is OK but not great but also connects to other devices such as mobile phones and satnav's so you can listen to music make and answer calls with ease.

I also use the normal and cheap orange foam ear plugs which work well.

If its just earplugs you want to try, you'd want to get a mixed bag and see what worked well for you. A few years ago, i used to run a full autocom system with decent disposable earplugs.  The autocom system was great in terms of sound quality, but too much bloody kerfuffle (great word there... lets use it people) and wouldn't fit into the Shoei when I first got one. Then I switched to a Midland BT2 Bluetooth set with the upgraded headset. That was pretty good; sound not quite up to the autocom, but the controls etc were a revelation. After a couple of years it got water in and packed up, and Midland swapped it at cost price.

Finally splashed out on a set of Ultimate Ears with integrated headphones. They also converted a cable to hook the BT2 onto the headphones. Now these are seriously good, give them a lick and shove them in. They give a great seal, and actually still give bass in a helmet at speed (not stupid teenagers bass, well rounded sound bass). Plus you can use them as every day earphones. Well recommended.
