going to London, wich pub is a must see?
#1
Hi all, friends of mine are in London this week. (go to the shelters!) and they are asking about pubs and stuff. Can any of you recommend a pub wich they have to visit? Like when you are in London your visit isn't complete if you're not been to this pub!
Something like that.
So let's hear it!

Do you know how big London is and how many pubs there are  :eek

Yes i know. That's why i ask. They just want to visit some local pubs and not the "tourist" ones.

Easiest if you say where you're going to go (specifically) and people can say about pubs that are near there.  Otherwise you'll have pubs in the middle of the sticks where you're never going to go.

Just my 2p....

Opinions are like A**holes, Everyone has one.  Some people seem to have more than one though which is a bit odd.

The porterhouse at covent garden is good (but probably pretty touristy) http://www.porterhousebrewco.com/bars-lo...garden.php
Plenty old 'salt-of-the-earth' pubs south of the river, if you are after jellied eels and a good ole knees up! Plenty around Borough Market...

They are at NH Hotel 202-220 Cromwell Rd.

Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese in Fleet Street is always a good experience, very quirky down in the cellars.  Beer is really cheap too :-)

Many years since I knew all the local haunts but a quick look at the map and I would say head S down Earls Ct. Rd. and you will be in Aussie land with more takeaways than you can shake a stick at. Or head East into Harrodsland and ask a cabbie for the best bars.

If you want to go posh start here  http://www.parklanehilton.com/bars  and have a cocktail on the 22nd floor, then cruise trader Vics.

Just round the corner is the world famous Hard Rock cafe but you may have to queue and, speaking as someone who used to drink there 5 days a week, not as good as it used to be.
I used to not give a foc, then I discovered Red Bull and now I don't give a flying foc !!!

Try the Blackfrier at, London Blackfriars (outside the station)

Other than that I usually drink round Liverpool St, a good selection of diverse bars and clientele...

Someone sent me a postcard picture of the earth. On the back it said, "Wish you were here."

Some say that he eats habanero chilli peppers dipped in oil of capsaicin for extra bite and that his pyjamas are made from Nomex. All we know is, he's called Ad the Bad

A pub i like is the Sherlock Holmes http://www.traditionalpubslondon.co.uk/s.../index.php
Just around the corner from Trafalgar square but for some reason does not get that busy. might be because its not on the main drag. depends what you are looking for. Has good food at a reasonable price with a nice selection of ales.

Is it still a pound at Browns?  Was always a pound (well, so I've been told) when I was working in London 10 years ago.

You could try the Sports Bar or White Horse just down the road as well (so I've heard...)
