Speed Awareness courses

Having done a speed awareness course instead of taking the points on my license I read in the news today that Admiral are going to increase your premium if you declare that you have attended a course

I must admit at the time of going to the course I did think this was going to be a complete waste of time etc and to be fair i probably didn't get the most out of the course as i sat there during the course just looking at my watch. I probably only really listened to an hour out of the 4 hours.

HOWEVER on refection I have now noticed that my driving / riding attitude has totally changed and now rarely drive above the limit as to where before i would sit on or just above it. the plus side of this is my mpg has gone up massively and only added about 10 mins to my weekly commute of 250 miles! and only 5 minutes on my daily commute of 35 miles!

Give it time you'll mph will start to creep up and as far as admiral is concerned they can do one ,you haven't been banned,got points,or fine so it's nothing to do with them even if they put it on there application you don't have to declare it as :lol it's not a conviction

Give them time and the'll change the wording on there policies and you'll have to declare it !  :o

I always think I have more to learn about safe riding.

How about another insurance company? I got insured with eBike insurance

after a gap in riding a bike for 19 years. Good  quote so might be worth giving them a try.

asking if you have attended a SA course is akin to asking you if you have ever sped at any time in your life.
there will be no way that Admiral will have access to a SA course database, so unless you have been convicted/charged then it's a non declarable item.
and TBH, anyone that actually admits attendance to their insurance co needs a good kicking anyway!!

Don`t know if its true but my wife is sure she saw an article in a newspaper that said you will get the points on your licence even if you take the speed awareness course from sometime in 2013.

I did the speed awareness course to avoid the points, though I did get 3 points for a traffic signal offence some years ago, on telling my insurance how much extra I was paying they said 3 points didn't make any difference as most people have 3 points? I did the course because its sods law if I hadn't, I'd have got caught again and ended up with 6 points.

ive done 2 courses but still the speed crept up , but now im a rospa member and see a lot more :\
