new kit recommendations please
#1
a colleague of mine is just about to get into biking (he only has a 10 mile / 20 minute commute to work) buying a 125, what would anyone suggest for basic kit to buy?

he wants to get cheap stuff as not sure if he will actually take to it!

Civilian clothes and the cheapest helmet he can find.

When Aldi offers come up it seems to do the job but you have to wait for the right time...

For winter: civilian ski clothes are the only thing that really works. Good winter boots and gloves.
If he gets hooked on bikes, he'll ask, try and get some bike specific clothes. No need to waste money before that.

could buy something like a back-protector/armoured-vest to protect him, and then he can wear anything leather/textile/tough over it

The Tuzo kit in M&P seems good value.

said it wasn't worth spending the money I did on a lid as I went OTT but suggested either a Nolan or Lazer helmet & as for boots he is an ex-pongo so has high leg DMS & gortex. I also suggested he goes to a bike clothing store J & S in Portsmouth to see what they had on the bargin rack,

I got a bike jacket from the sale rack in Hein Gerike for £60 and its still alright 3 years down the line, starting to let the water in a bit though. Look out for sale stuff, all the new winter gear should be out by now.
