another cam chain / adjuster question!
#1
hi all iv only had my98  600 fazer a few months and had great fun with no probs etc,the cam chain made a small amount of noise when cold but went after engine warmed up but today noise didnt go away, the bikes done just over 30k so dont think it needs a new chain but is it worth me taking adjuster off and checking it or is it put ear plugs in and forget it? if i need to remove is it tank and carbs off job?cheers mark

My cam chain was getting pretty noisy at startup around 27-28k, I took it off to reset it (tank off, shift carbs back/up and you can just get to it) but it didn't go away.  Within another 1000 miles it'd clicked over and quietened down again.
I'd leave it and if it's still there in a k or two, then start to worry  Big Grin

From experience, the camchain tends to have a 30k life but the tensioner could be in between notches.
Go out and give the bike a good blast and see if it clicks to the next notch, if not, if it's still sounding like a sewing machine when warm then the chain is worn and needs sorting!
More people are born because of alcohol than will ever die from it.
