Jon, Sciatic nerve not sure how it's happened at 1st I thought I'd got just stiff back due to working out in rain, but over wks got worse and pain in leg like electric shock ! infact I was starting to drag my leg as the pain got that bad and i could not sleep at night and id keep the gf awake so I went to emergency docs gave me pain killers and sent me to my own docs they said no cure may go on its own and gave me 100 more pain killers 8-a day, without these I'd be struggling as they work and allow me to carry on only with mild pain, not sure how long I can keep taking pain killers for tho.
So trip to alps ! unless you cut my legs off than I'll be still going I'll bare the pain. Dave.

There is no 'cure' as in a pill that will make it go away, because Sciatica is not a problem that can be cured, but the name given to the symptoms of a range of problems. If your cause is a trapped nerve, then untrap the the nerve, and the problem is fixed. I suggest you talk to a physio or chiropractor to get to the root of the issue.

Most painful thing I've ever experienced - a trapped nerve in my lower back.
I did mine years ago playing squash one evening. At first it just felt like a muscle strain but as the evening wore on the pain increased until unbearable. SWMBO call out Dr at about 10pm. He gave me painkillers and said would return in the morning. By about 1am I had woofed down the painkillers and was about to start on the gin ! The pain was really bad. About the only relief I could give myself was to hang from a doorframe - a sort of self traction. SWMBO called out Dr again. He said he would have admitted me to hospital to put me on traction but it would take too long. I was laid on the bed and ho told me to turn over. Next thing I know he is injecting my backside. I don't know what it was but it knocked me out cold and I awoke next morning with just a slightly sore back. By relaxing me he had managed to release the trapped nerve. I had some numbness down my leg the last of which in my little toe took about 6 months to disappear as the damaged nerve repaired itself. You have my sympathy but as previous reply suggested - if it is a trapped nerve, find a way to get it released.

I have had trapped nerve and back pain on and off for the last 9 years. After a while the pain killers don't work, as said before you need to treat the cause not the symptom and get the nerve un-trapped.
A friend of mine who was suffering the same suggested a Shiatsu massage rack, well worth the small cost for the quick relief it gives. You have you be careful from now on as your back has become weak, see a physiotherapist (or look on line) for core strength exercises. A couple of links for Shiatsu racks. http://www.sueryderforlife.co.uk/product...TM825.html http://www.mh4home.com/index.php?page=sh...&Itemid=29

[/quote]best advice so far but forget physio go see a chiropractor, ok you have to pay & they can be expensive. SWMBO had a bad back for years, went to doc's all they do is throw painkillers at you but there's only so many of them you can take. she tried physio for a long time that didn't any good, ended up going to a chiropractor, turns out she had a curve in her spine possibly caused many years earlier when she gave birth to our youngest daughter. the chiropractor was able to manipulate her spine back into the correct position, it took quite a few sessions but it sorted her back out.

+1 for chiropractor
Had it for 6 months and it was like red hot electric needles shooting from my lower back to the heel of my foot. Pain killers no use.

Dave
It could be a touch of the old agestarting to creep in m8 !...I have had a problem with my achilles tendon for well over 18 months now. I have been getting regular massage from a beautiful nubile nymphette...which works wonders in so many ways ! lol...but seriously , some ailments do take feckin ages to heal. I even have had a steroid injection, which didnt cure it.When it was bad, it was like a knife stabbing me, it really was bad. I had to sit and take weight off my foot.Could nt walk for long either etc.... Touch wood, I have been pain free since late May, so i am hoping it has healed. Physio reckons its down to fallen arches, and I wear orthotic insoles now.I bet if I was 20, it would have lasted a week or so ...best wishes for a recovery m8, and no doubt the trip should at least take yer mind off it a bit !

only 41 !!...come on !...next thing , you wont believe I am only a day over 45 meself... :lol
you accumulate knocks and injuries over the years, your body does heal slower the older you get, not even necessarily " old age"...and some injuries just dont heal fast . look on the bright side...life begins at 50 , so they say ! :rolleyes
