I'm a 34 year old Male who lives up the the highlands of Scotland (well Moray to be percise)
I've recently sat my CBT and rather than riding a 125 I am going on to do my full test shortly.
I have looked about through bike trader etc.. And always keep returning to the pages with Fazers on.
I'd imagine they are a good place to start my journey into the world of bigger bikes.
Your thoughts??

Get a 250 if you've never ridden anything above 125 cc. THEN go for a Fazer.
Most things done in a hurry need to be done again - patiently.
A cheap 125 (Honda CG or similar) is a good bet to give you road practice before and while you do DAS, and looked after can be sold for about the same as what you pay for it, plus it'll help regarding insurance.

If you do decide to go for a Fazer for your first 'big' bike then you won't go wrong. Take time to get used to it as the change from a 125 is pretty awsome, especialy further up the rev range (6'000 +).
Mileage not too important if you find one that has been well looked after, serviced etc. One with a few mods will save your pocket, if you go for the earlier model (square headlights) ask if the headlight mod has been done.
You might find a good one on here that you can ask about as more than likely other members will know the bike, they are a great bunch on here.
I see what others mean about starting smaller but a bike will only be as fast and dangerous as YOU make it ! Going straight to a fazer would eliminate buying and selling another bike plus you will be 'starting' with a bike that may well do you for years

Welcome to the site, I'm round the corner from you, on Speyside. Paulo Marchi the window cleaner in Elgin had a rather tasty looking mark 1 for sale a couple of weeks ago, (dunno if he still has it, but might be worth a phone call), good luck with your search and keep her shiny side up.
If you worried about falling off your bike, you'd never get on.
If you are doing direct access & taking test on bigger bike treat yourself to a Fazer. Remember the throttle is under your control. It is an amazing all-rounder & very user friendly. good luck & enjoy :lol
iv been riding road bikes for over 20 years now and iv only just bought a fazer 600(1998) after problems with my back on 'sports'bikes,the fazer is an excelent bike,comfy,handles great,cheapish,good on fuel and easy fast enough but smooth with it,it would be an excelent first big bike or even for seasoned riders,like others have said the bike will only go as fast as you the rider make it,a smaller bike to get a bit of experiance would be a good idea if you can get one at the right price and if insurance is cheap but you will soon get 'bored' with a 125 so if you can get insurance at a good price on a fazer id say go for it and just be sensible and steady,maybe you can get a restriction kit of some form to start with?
whatever bike you decide on give it a good check over with engine been the obivious thing to check but also check the expensive parts ie brake discs,tyres,chain and sprockets etc,good luck with your test and have fun
