Summer riding kit.

Hi all, having passed my test in February this year I purchased all winter style clothing. with it getting warmer I would like something a little less heavy.
Currently I have a Richa Torrent jacket. I have taken the lining out but my arms stick to the waterproof lining when its hot... not nice.


I am a big-ish chap so not sure sporty jackets are suitable. i doubt the general public want to see my arse crack lol.

With any luck that jacket would zip into my trousers.


any one got any thoughts on this?

Depends on planned usage really. I have a vented leather race jacket that I rarely use add I don't do track days or ride outs any more. It was great for fun rides on hot days though, if the temp dropped I'd wear my water proof over the top to cut the wind.

However my current riding is very different, For my commute to work I find a lid and gloves with normal office clothes the best thing on hot days. But that won't work for everyone.

I'm off to Birmingham tomorrow and I'll be wearing a Hein Gericke "Air Jacket" which (ok, it's a bit late for you now) I bought as an "end of season"/ discontinued line for fifty quid.

I don't tend to wear it unless the temperature is over about 23 degrees, but it's worth it

I also have a waterproof over-jacket for when it rains or if it gets a bit colder and I need something to block the air-flow, I carry that in a Kriega 3 bum-bag.

Know the problem! Its ever so slightly warm in the Midlands today. I wear Hein Gericke goretex jacket & trousers bought 6 years ago when they fitted properly. Must stop eating! I have NEVER had to use the winter linings but I will be using the air vents today! 8) :lol

I've got one of the HG Airstream jackets, some race gloves and a pair of Kevlar jeans that do me well for summer. I also leave a set of waterproofs under my seat in case it cools down or rains.

well the Hein Gericke stuff seems popular.. due to the compatibility of the trousers though i think i am going to stick with Richa though.

I use the Richa 3 in 1 Jacket, can't remember what its called, but it has a removable thermal lining,  removable waterproof lining and then airvents front and back for summer use. Its brilliant but expensive.
The trick i learnt though from a mate is to always wear a long sleeve t-shirt under neath anything. Ok its warm a low speeds but fine when motoring along. No sticky arms at all.

Bloody Norra it's hot today.

I've got Scott leathers, which are really good quality, but the thick heavy duty leather just gets too much for me in this heat.

I pretty much always wear leather jacket and trousers, but today it was back to leather jacket and ordinary jeans.  It's just too bloody hot.  I'm in Ayrshire and the temp is over 25 degrees, could be as high as 28.

My bike sat in the sun all day while I was at work.  I could have sworn it had burst into flames on the way home, the seat, which had soaked up the sun all day was burning my ass all the way home.  Ouch.

I've got a Furygan leather jacket that has a thermal lining which obviously I take out for summer and I love it.

I think they are quite ''generous'', I got mine cheap as it was end of line in France, had to get it all altered though, great for length of arms but the rest was huge, xxl I think

Well the Air Jacket stood me in good stead up until the M42 at which point the traffic had slowed to a virtual crawl due to an accident and although I filtered through it, there wasn't the airflow to cool me

Still, it's better than when I got back into Portsmouth today and saw some twunt riding in just a lid, a pair of shorts and pair of trainers...!!!

cheers for the replies guys. the father in law has lent me a summer jacket for the time being till i decide what to get. its a 3XL... it massive on me and he is smaller, god knows how he wears it.

Was he on a custom style bike? They normally are round this way.
i wouldguess skin wears down a little quicker than the Kevlar in my trousers lol.

Recently bought a Frank Thomas leather jacket which has punched leather on the front and back and it's great in this weather.

Also some good bargains to be had on FT right now, got mine from J&S at £100 off.

I have summer kit made by IXS - sold at J&S Stores.  Its is fitted with CE armour but is not windproof and therefore very cool in summer.  It is even comfortable when touring Spain.

Got a Frank Thomas Dri Viz jacket I wear all year round, taking the lining out in summer. Loads of zipped vents really get some air in. Sartso kevlar lined jeans on a good day.


Best things I have bought tho are a pair of light summer gloves. Dianese, short cuffs. Air goes through them if you kinda spread your fingers. Short cuffs allow air up your sleeve too. Recommended!
