Front sprocket
#21
Quote:neither OE front sprocket on my 2 fazers had plastic inserts....so dont know where you have got this from ?

See the photo above of my 1999 Fazer 600 sprocket.  That's the 600's OE sprocket.

I bought the thou new in 2004, the sprocket had the same nylon/plastic insert thingy (might be a different colour).

interesting , cos my 04 bike was bought with 8k on the clock, and what are I am sure OE fitted sprocket and chain. This is the first sprocket change at 36 k miles( = 28 K chain and sprocket life), and no plastic at all, just metal.
The OE Yam front sprocket is distinstive as it has a thick middle, looking a bit odd, but no doubt there for strength and " noise" suppression !

I bought my 04 with IIRC ~7k on & my front sprocket too was as yours ie. no plastic & a thicker middle.

Just to add my tupence ha'penny worth(?) I've had my 04 gen 1 from new and when I replaced my C and S the front had a plastic insert in it. That said the it showed little wear and the chain was only about 1cm longer than the replacement one. Never noticed any increase in noise given that the repalcement frnot sporocket was par of a DID kit with no plastic bit and I ride with a open helmet (!) Today I rode with a full face helmet and ear plugs and was a bit scared by the extra 10 mph corner entry speed!! Then again could get used to it  Smile

I must post up a piccy of my front sprocket , it has quite pronounced hooking of the teeth. However it pales into insignificance compared to a chain I saw last year on a KTM 990 which was utterly shagged in under 10k miles. The chain literally could move 5mm across the sprockets, and was  so stretched it was almost jumping the sprockets, looking like a chain too big for them- the worst wear I have ever seen........TBH I reckon I could have got a few thousand miles more out of my old transmission, but wanted a renewal as I am going on a big euro trip in early July.
It was good to strip out the swingarm too, as it had little grease on it , plus a full clean and regrease of the suspension linkages.

Hi guys
Finally got out on the fazer today...put  50 miles on, so had good chance to try out both the "new" K tech sussies  and the new transmission. Well I am one happy bunny , cos the suspension is back to the taut control I remembered, its handling superbly.I have left it on K techs suggested settings but probably will play about a bit to get it supple enuff for touring. Its one issue with the fazer ...no single suspension setting suits the range of riding its capable of, from trackdays to gentle touring. If its firm enuff for control at 150 , it will be too firm for 60 ?
Right , next up the new transmission....well FFs I cant hear any noise at all from thi srenthal front sprocket ! I really dont know what noise other folks have, but mine is silky smooth and noise free. The chain looks great , identical to the gold DID I bought for my last bike, so no criticism at all ( as yet ! ).  Smile

just out of curiosity what does this sprocket noise sound like ?? I,ve just put new wheel bearings in both wheels & had a chain and sprocket kit fitted (JT sprockets) after this i seem to of aquired a noise that sounds like Tyre/road noise a bit like the sound of a landrover tyre noise if you know what i mean .
Did,nt have it before these new bits ,does sprocket noise sound like this or could it be a duff bearing, i know its a difficult one to answer but it would be appreciated

OE sprocket is item 33 on attached fiche - it is made with a rubber/plastic insert that deadens the vibes.

Can't comment on why Pitts was different but it ain't standard.

Non standard is a bit noiser IMO.

PS Lot's of counterfeit "branded" C & S kits about - beware!

I rechecked my OE sprocket which came off, and tbh it does have a rubber/plastic centre. Its not red though like VNA, its dark, looks just like metal till you realise you can push yer fingernail in a bit!
I reiterate I cannot hear any transmission noise at all....I feel a  bit cheated !!  Wink
