on monday my cam chain tensioner finally decided to do its job it took a long time about 3000 miles and with the low temperatures the engine never really fully warmed up so the rattle was almost constant and it was driving me mad i did panic a bit monday night when i started my bike and thought something is wrong it doesnt sound right it took me about 10 seconds before i worked out there was no rattle i forgot how smooth and quiet the engine should be i'm loving the bike as its coming up to 45000 miles with 10000 miles of them being mine since i got it may last year i'm really looking forward to summer and racking up more miles

Remember when I got my new FZS600 back in 2003. It started to rattle at only 1500 miles and continued for months. Driving into London one night then suddenly..... quiet as a mouse. Nine years and 50,000 miles later, she's still going strong Smile

Ha ha, mine did exactly the same thing at about 50k.....started her up one morning realising something was different and had a moments panic like you.....soon realised what it was and it felt like a new bike.

For me, it perfectly co-incided with a new chain & sprockets, oil & filter along with a service of the brakes.....the combined transformation was immense...on 61k now and going strong

Same on my FZS600, i bought it and it was rattling quite loud at 15,000 miles, and over the next 15,000 miles it got steadily louder and louder, then at about 35,000 miles it just stopped one morning when i started up, and it has been quiet ever since, bike is now on about 43k and purrs like a kitten, its running better than it ever has and i think these bikes just get better when they are a bit older with decent amount of miles on them

Give the motor regular handfulls right to the red line in the lower gears, the engine loves it so does the tensioner and you may well too  Big Grin
