£1000 to insure an £800 YBR125 :rollin
I know he is only 17 yada yada yada but his car insurance cost that much and bikes are meant to be cheap transport!

It's statistics, loads of YBRs on the road crashing or getting nicked. Being on a less common bike like a CB125 from the 70s might bring it down.
thou shalt not kick
Insurance is defo a piss take.
We have had snow fall so i wanted a banger of a car for maybe 4 months, £350 for car and insurance of nearly £700! Bike is only £150 a year but would rather keep it nice!

Got one reasonable quote so far of £413 from Bike Insurer and now his existing company (Rampdale) haev quoted £386.85 which is not too bad compared with the Swinton quote of £1000 or the Be-Wiser quote of £1900!!!!!!!!

consider whacking all the info into a comparison website, they do check lots of places, then contact the 'winner' directly and see what they say
(do check the info though, i've had some that have been really of in terms of what they think i put on the form)
TJT, I startee with the comparison sites, they were next to useless as none would accept he had no-claims (from his moped) as he was too young or that he did his CBT a year ago as "that is before his licence is valid from" etc.
In the end it was phone calls to various brokers. Best one so far is through Rampdale who his moped is through at £386, so not bad at all now. None will do a multi-bike policy for him though as his moped is chinese.

My local yamaha dealer sells bikes to the local premisership rugby team players (not saying which players just in case as they are not allowed bikes) and for a brand new yamaha vmax at £23,000 one of his insurance quotes was £10,000. He's in his mid 20's married with a child.
Now that is bad.
Red Heads - Slowly taking over the world!!!
Makes me angry how they just make up these silly quotes. Tried to get my son (17 at the time) insured for an old toyota corolla (about 1800 quids worth), most quotes on the comparison sites were £20,000 - £25,000 TPFT. Cheapest I could get was £4995 after ringing around, good job the bus stop is just across the road, good job he is in Uni now and doesn't need a car.

A guy at work said he got his sons quote down by agreeing to no use from 10pm until 6am, about £1400 including having a tracker fitted.
Got the sons Fiesta 1.25 insured for under £1000 (just) but as soon as he passes his test you have to tell them and they requote extortionate figures (£5000+) for TPFT.
Thieving robbing bastewards the lot of them!

They are shooting themselves in the foot with insurance quotes. There are gonna be many, many, many more uninsured, drivers/riders for this reason.
I heard somewhere that the government was gonna step in and set regulations to make sure insurers don't take the piss.
Really can't see that happening though

Cant see the politians stepping in as they get they tax from it!!
I ended up insuring my sons car under my name and having him as a named driver. (still cost £650 for a Saxo!)
the thing we had to prove when he was involved in a minor fender bender (not his fault in anyway) was that I had been the main driver. I did ask what constitutes main driver? as I drove it at weekends doing 200 miles where he drove it during the week doing 200 miles , both spending roughly equal times in the seat!!
they did say that I was the main driver !!
It ain't what you ride, it's who you ride with!!!
Try as I might I can't believe Brown Junior is 17 albeit he is 7ft tall

It is true BM, first driving lesson is tonight at 5:30 so stay away from the roads around Crawley at that time. He decided he was too tired to go out at midnight last nigh.
He will be getting the 125 out for the 1st tim on the 22nd once his moped insurance expires is he remembers to call them to update the insurance to the 125.
Robbie, the Fiesta was £960 with him as the main driver or £860 with me as the main driver. Worth the £100 to start building no-claims but once he passes his test I can see the car getting SORN as we cannot justify spending £3K+ to insure it.

I was insured as a named driver on my Granddad's wife's car, a 1.0 Micra (52 plate), she had to pay £90. She then got a Suzuki Swift 1.4 (56 plate), called up the insurance to change over and they said no problem with her but I was a problem, she said she was willing to pay a bit more to keep me as a named driver they then quoted her £900!!! Needless to say I am now not insured on that car, she was told it was because I am not 30 yet, this is true I don't turn 30 until April! I do however have an SP30 from Feb 2010.
I have told her to keep me informed on the renewal date as I can get a quote of £400 for Her, Granddad and me! Robbing Gits!
