Television drivers

Am I the only person who watches television presenters driving at the same time as presenting a television program as wrong.  They drive along with a camera mounted on the dash half an eye on the road and the other on the camera. It is not a good example.

the thing that annoys me is that they
a) only seem intrested in super cars that are out of the normal persons price range!
b) rarely feature bikes

would love to see a feature comparing normal cars been driven on proper roads rather than a test track!

I'm sorry but why would i want to watch that, i could go to the show rooms and book a test drive, i will never be able to drive a super car though and rarely see them, bar on Top Gear etc.

Agreed. It's not just motoring programmes that are guilty of this, at least they're doing it with some justification (and it might be argued that their presenters are better than average as regards driving skills), but most of the rest do it too. It bothers me when some documentary cuts to a journalist driving and talking... he's not concentrating on the road and I'm not concentrating on what he's saying 'cos I'm distracted by the fact that he's not focussed on the road. :rollin

I wish there was a Top Gear style program for bikes. There was a few on men and motors which were awful but i still watched them for the content.

yeah but sometimes it is boring! i do like top gears other features and challanges! still think what they did with that toyota pickup was probably best ever thing they did!!

as for other things like news reports etc ...

agree on that, they do it in films where there are huge dialogues and they sit looking at each other! when i tried that i was all over the road!

plus have you noticed they never get cut up and swear at other drivers like in real life! lol

(saw them filming heartbeat in Goathland few years ago and they closed the roads off for safety when filming things like that still not easy to look drive in a straigh line whilst looking at the person you talking to!

It drives me nuts when non-motoring programs show some idiot presenter driving along - usually seems to be DIY / house type programs where the driving has nothing to do with the subject.

fazed600 that is the sort of thing i had in mind as well as new presenters, driving along when there is no reason for it. As a biker with the worry of meeting a SMIDSY it appears to me to be setting a bad example as if driving is so everyday it does not require your full attention.

It typifies the general attitude to driving. Most people drive expecting no hazards, then react too late when one appears. :'(
I was always taught to drive pro-actively and anticipate hazards allowing timely reactions.


I certainly could never drive along looking at something other than the road ahead (and behind in the mirrors!)

They don't get cut up etc in top gear because they generally close the roads, not all the time i agree.
Plus you would stop and stare at a black Range Rover with the tail gate open and a camera man hanging out followed by a super car, so can't cut them up.
