Not heard of anyone doing this before. You'd need to check part numbers to confirm.
The valve and pulley from an 98/99 R1 definitely fits. ![]()

I think the valve is of the same design going right back to the original FZR1000. I had a quick Google to try and verify that and found this service guide for an FZR1000, unfortunately the exup maintanence pics are ripped from Pat's site but this could infer they are the same (or maybe not). But, the clever chap has a picture showing where he has fitted a grease nipple to the end bush of the exup valve which is a good idea. No details on how he did it however and of course you'd still need to yank the valve out to grease the other bush. Still a neat idea though.

the exup valve is the same on the thunderace and fazer, apart from the cable bracket and the cover, that is unique to the fazer

Cheers Guys, now need to watch ebay for a good valve as mine has worn on the pully end. Current valve has been extracted from the bike at every service and re-greased to ensure that it does not jam.

An early R1 valve is the same as well, have a look on the American eBay site as that is where I got mine from, mine too is totally worn out on the pulley end
Have a look at item no 280715182034 or for a new one and cheaper than retail ,item no 110769703376

would it not be cheaper and quicker to take the valve and headers to a machine shop and have them round the worn end(s) and make up new bushes to suit the newly machined ends?
is it clean enough?

Got a second hand valve off ebay, good condition bit a little dirty, could I clean it with alloy wheel cleaner? Or is that too corrosive ?

i got mine complete with the cable bracket from america and it cost me just under £50 including post and it was nearly immaculate,a local breaker on ebay wanted £50 and there was no cable bracket and it was no where as good as condition to the one i bought

I've just fitted a Gen1 R1 Exup in my Fazer 1000 Gen1. I spoke to Fowlers and they told me the Thunderace one is also the same part number, so you should be OK

Be very aware that correct cable tensioning is important, if anything err on the slack side, as too tight cables will drastically increase wear on the pulley end, lubricated or not..
