cheers Mr C . no not working in a lean to, the sheet you can see in the back ground is just blocking the light to take the picture, iam lucky to have my own garage just for bikes and cars  ,NO HOUSEHOLD RUBBISH ALOUD .  :thumbup

got a bit more done yesterday, trimmed all the studs and refitted the downpipes, this part of my winter maintence is now complete ,i do need to polish up the downpipes and see if i can clean some of that crap from the front  of the engine block , think i`ll add "fit fender extender" to my list  Wink ....

got a bit of time spare today so plan to refit the rad, fill with coolant and see if i can find the leak....i am expecting a "parcel of goodness" today though which could very easily distract me..... :rolleyes

Nice job Mr.Red. :thumbup  The domed nuts is certainly a good idea. Just taken mine off for a re- copperslip, and all came off sweet as a nut. I didn't cut the studs down, just used stainless nuts with domed nuts to cover the exposed section of thread. Has the same effect though.

beautifull day here in south bucks even the sun came out  Smile .....back in the garage this morning, took the downpipes off and refitted the rad, connected all pipes and filled the system, started the old girl up with no exhaust so i could clearly see where the leaks coming from and...........

THE OLD GIRL SOUNDS FANTASTIC WITH NO EXHAUST    :lol :lol :lol

as UNFAZED has already predicted its coming from the water/oil pump and draining out through a sleeved hole in the sump, ive drained the coolant and oil in readyness to whip the pump out and inspect the seals , stopping for lunch whilst everything drains...

pleased with my progress this morning but my "parcel of goodness" has arrived.......things might just slow up a bit now    Wink ......see btm piccie  Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

morning MR C.......close , twin 40 dellorto`s, a bargain buy on ebay  Wink .....iam itching to get them fitted but got to finish the thou first.

got the clutch plates out last night but with no wheels on the bike and without the proper tool i cant undo the clutch basket nut,so iam going to clean up the backend, grease the suspension linkage and refit the rear wheel so i can put the bike in gear lock the rear wheel and undo the nut.....sounds like a plan to me.......

Planned? General tidy up of the Thou, fitting a 4 deg advancer, oil & filter change, valve clearance check (75K miles!) and carb balance. No doubt come across other stuff to do.

Damn good clean for a start. Bikes never been so dirty. Blow dry, then on with the ACF50 and the spray gun. This time next year itll probably be the valve clearance check

a quick update.......sump,oil strainer and large oil pipe are now off  :thumbup .......with a struggle though, laying on the cold, hard garage floor with my head wedged between bike and floor is not good  :\ ......front end is still off the bike, rear wheel is on the floor and ive winched the front of the bike up as high as i can get it without taking all of the weight off the centre stand, its workable but i think its going to be worse getting things back on......

seriously thinking about work bench, abba lift or eazyrizer now........eazyrizer is top of my list as it will lift any bike without the need for having various adapters.....already seen VNA`s excellent sky lift ....anyone got an eazyrizer ?

more struggling and swearing this morning but the pump is now off the bike  :thumbup ........next job is to split the two halves of the water pump and withdraw the shaft and inspect bearings and seals........glad its out but its been a struggle with the bike on the floor, all i can think off as a quick fix for making it easier to put back together is a series of large wooden blocks , i have a winch more than capable of lifting the whole bike which will give me room to slide the blocks under the wheels and centre stand.......not 100% sure  this is a good idea though    :rolleyes

got the pump stripped down this afternoon , cant see any major fails and the bearings are excellent ,so just looks like general wear and tear , will order a full O ring set for the pump, sump and clutch cover gasket, and O rings for the large oil pipe as one fell apart as i removed the pipe.....

Nice job Mr.Red. What mileage is on your thou?. Just wondered if this fault is mileage related, or just bad luck. I can see how the Sky Lift would have made life a lot easier for you, that's for sure.

Red, what coolant did you have in it. Strange colour on the internals of the pump.. Had you changed the coolant at some stage?

hi MR R.......bikes done about 54.000,no service history with the bike when i bought it,but think it may have had a hard life early on ,no signs of abuse on stripping down and am pretty sure its not been opened up before...think ive just been unlucky ,not seen it mentioned on here before either....

yep my nights sleep are full of abby dreams  :lol        think i`ll make some wooden blocks at work tomorrow  :thumbup
