One of my customers works for BMW and he came down on the R1250R a month or two back. Was apparently the first one in the country.
Gotta say it's a fine bit of kit, lots of brushed alloy and trick bits but I really wasnt keen on the look of the engine. Its massively wide in an otherwise thin frame and just looks a bit too front heavy.
The only negative he had to say about it was that smacking your shins on the engine guard was an issue and that it kicks off heat something fierce. Other than that he described it as a sedate s1000 (the naked one)
Cheers Dude. It’s the look of boxer engines that I love. Those two massive cylinders poking oot. Not seen one in the flesh but the exclusive edition looks good in the photos. The chrome exhaust can is horrible, but that can be fixed – SC Project did some nice ones for the previous model.
I presume the foot pegs touch down long before one of those cylinders ever does.
But yeah, BMW boxer. Am I just showing clear signs of ageing.
Quote:Looks bloody great imho. I had a go on a r nine t last year, them new boxer engines are bloody quick off the mark and no mistake
R Nine T is gorgeous. Were you tempted Ogri?
R1250R has the new liquid cooled shift cam engine. Bit portly at 240kg fuelled up, but it should surely be a sweet handler wi all the weight pretty low doon.
nope, too rich for me mate. Also as much as I love a retro, the r nine t doesn't quite work for me. that bimmer in the photo does tho. the r9t engine blew me mind though...soooo different to the old flat twins. If I had the dosh id prolly go for that new trumpet speed twin, though I dont understand why they worked so hard to make the FI look like vintage amals, then put a cover on the speed twins mock 'carbs' so it dont :rolleyes
It took quite a while before I bumped into an R nine T in the flesh. It was a 2014 model and it was just stunning. Gorgeous. I had not long seen a Speed Twin which is also a lovely looking bike, but the nine T has it.
However, the nine T just isn’t a very practicable day to day bike. Plus the r1250 has 20 more ponies and a whopping extra 30lbs torque.
Need to get out and try one. Could it be the practicable, with decent range, shaft drive, civilised gentleman’s nutter bike to the constant lets have a square go alcoholic riot of a bike that is the MT10.
I aint tried a mt10 but im guessing its the bike I would have killed for back in the day but would shit myself if I owned it now :lol the bimmer does sound like a helluva tool, as you say a gentlemans nutter bike, deffo gonna be interesting to see what you make of it
You really should pop down your local Yamaha dealer and try an MT10. It made quite an impression on me. I may yet buy one. But. I dunno. It can be civilised but wack that throttle open and it’s a ferocious angry beast.
God only knows what the current Tuono and Super Dukes are like :eek
INTERESTING...but that green Kawasaki has the ugliest exhaust i've ever seen.
with regard to LARGE PICS...please see my post in this section under PHOTOBUCKET FIX
I test rode the bmw r1200r and the r1250r and the 1250 is impressive.
Hooning down country lanes in 3rd gear riding on a wave of torque is really something.
I then did the same route on my fazer thou and decided that the fazer ain’t half bad too,so I decided to keep it.
There’s something that the fazer thou has that I can’t let go of.

The primary issue is a good clean late FZS1000 with all the mods is about £3-3.5k and and early model Z1000SX can be found for around £4-4.5k, the 1250R and M10 all start a few grand more than that which for a lot of people is just a bit too much to afford let alone insure.
And yes the exhaust is just dog fugly, first think I would is swap them out for something far smaller and louder.
I've been seriously considering getting the Z1000sx next year. The 2017+ model looks the business and has all the fancy gadgets you'd want on a sport tourer without too much interference. Not to mention if you get the tourer edition then the matching panniers look great as they're colour coded and shaped to the body work.
Theres plenty of more exciting bikes out there but for real world usability I dont think it can be beaten

I just got stopped in my tracks with regard to this bike as I was told by a mechanic a few days ago and have found several verified instances on line of a serious fault with 4th gear and apparently Kawasaki aren't dealing with this as an official recal but instead silently fixed? the issue on later bikes
updated the above and the OP, need to find out what year Kawasaki fixed this issue on - but seriosuly I had that shit w/2nd gr on one of my ZZR1100's several years ago - but that was an issue fix as you could access the gearbox from the bottom of the engine.

Its not as fugly as the FZ1 -
[/quote] I don't think it's fugly :lol
