Even if they do write the bike-off, you should be able to buy it back using the payout from the insurance company... right?

Yeah, BLD have said that. It would then be a Cat C I think, no real problem with that as I don't plan to sell it.

More likely a Cat D, cosmetic damage but beyond economic repair, especially when they factor in the cost of the hire bike they have provided you with.

I would be surprised if it went to Cat C... can't be any structural damage to it at all?
