That bike in for sale section is lovely and if your going to stick it in a glass box than fine, but if your intention is going to be riding it, than your going to want to change the rear shock, sort the front forks, its now well over £5k and that's a lot of wonga for that.

I brought a totally mint stock gen 1 with 6k on the clock for £2400, it was off a forum member and he brought it new and it had been ivanised by mike, it was totally stock and immaculate.

I than turned it into this.

It was minta than mint once i finished I'm OCD perfectionist, i think it had 11k on the clock when I sold it last year for £3850.

Finally I've admitted to myself that I can't keep mine looking spotless forever. It's going to get used, a lot! I'll do my best to keep it reasonably clean, but it's going to pick up battle scars - stone chips, the odd luggage scrape (although I do my best to protect it from this) etc. Actually, I don't think I could ever keep any bike that I wanted in mint condition. What the foc would I want a bike for if I couldn't/daren't ride it?! I'll leave that to museums.

Nick you can protect it stone chips quite easily, ventureshield i did all my painted bits and the carbon, i buy it in rolls than make card templates than cut the shapes out.

This is a shaft drive I've covered you can just see the out line.

I have used ventureshield on a few bikes and it is excellent.

I am considering putting the specific kit on mine and then buying a roll to protect the belly pan.

Highly recommended stuff:

It would be a pity to pick up a stone chip now after 10 years :lol

That's a really stunning example.

A bargain at  £3850 IMHO with 11,000 miles!

Nogster your right, I'm far from petite, the gen 2 handles my manly heaviness no probs at all, one of the reasons I prefer a gen two is they are far stiffer( Farr fnarr), and don't sink like my ageing gen 1 did when I sat on it. I did have to alter the headlights, and in doing so finally found summat I don't like about my bike, trying to spanner the two nuts around that alter the beam height is a right arse of a job!!
Was thinking about that minty gen one today, on me ride from norwich to Peterborough to see me grandson. I guess it's a question of perspective.
If you bought that bike at four and a half grand and used it as god intended, in. One or two years time it would be another clean fazer thou worth two and a half grand realistically. That's nearly five grand to find then a 2k drop in two years. If you bought a new fz1 it's twice as much money to find for the Purchase, and you would lose 2 grand as soon as you rode it away from the shop.
So....if you genuinely prefer gen ones to gen twos, in a way it's kind of a bargain I guess... Smile

Mine cost me £2990. Not immaculate , but very clean, 15000 on the clock (v. low for a 2002 by any standard). The paint job is by Dream Machine (and I love it!)- what would that have cost to have done myself? So I throw £300 at it to Ivans it. Say £1000 - £1300 for R1 USD forks and R6 rear shock? (gonna have to pay someone else to fit it all). Odds and sods (rad guard, rad covers etc), say £300 by the time I'm done. £300 for the Scorpion can (yeah I know, how much?!!  :eek ) £5300 tops? And that's now set up for me. Got many 1000s of miles use in it yet.
Add £1500 and that's what you're looking at to get this one to the spec I'm chasing. £6800. But 10,000 less miles from when you buy it. Or you could leave it as it is, but then you're not getting the best from it.
No point in pretending you're not going to use it, no point in pretending it'll always be this clean. You will, and it won't.

I can't decide if that's good or not... :\

It's gotta be good innit nick?
The bike looks as good as new more or less, but you can't actually buy a new gen one, this is as close as you'll get I suppose. When they came out I was up for getting one til they released the price but then decided it was too rich for me. Makes a nearly new one at this price pretty good I guess.
Then again, one of the things that makes so many decide in favour of the gen one over the gen two is that it's considerably cheaper for more or less the same performance... I guess if you take that out of the equation by the gen one being priced high it moves the goal posts.

I guess if you compare it to buying a new bike, what, £8-10 grand? Then you'd probably spend money setting that up how you want it (tho probably not as much as the example I've given for mine). The gen 1 is probably quite as capable a bike as many a new model if you do the main bits to it. In fact, I'm still not sure that anyone has come out with as capable an all-rounder since then. Maybe the new Z1000SX. But then there's the looks thing. Bikes tend to be affairs of the heart, rather than the head for many of us, and that kind of skews the field a bit too.

The Z1000SX is a nice machine but I prefer the look of the Gen 1.

I am however a tad biased :lol

Ye the Gen 2 defo meets my needs more.

But gen 1 gets big thumbs up for looking the best.

Im talking i think about £4500 for a tidy gen 2 & no doubt a few hundred straight away if i get one with the bog standard exhaust because it would be coming off straight away.

It would be maybe a year & half before i can realistically muster up say a few grand  & on the basis that the gen 1 will then be slightly older it could be in my sights at a few k so fingers crossed & im getting saving.ive gotta weigh up the money id also be spending on the 600 as in another year & a half id defo be looking at full suspension upgrades on it for circa £500 so its not just the money im saving for the new bike but also the extra money on top of that im not spending on the old bike.

Overtime has been slim on the ground this last year but if next year i do get a luck streak of overtime the money can quickly rack up so it's time put it all into the bike fund. Smile

Aw foc!!!....im steaming & thank foc for the traaaaaaaaam!!! :b .......Brrrrp! :b

Go away to Englandshire for 3 days & already 2 offers of test drives...fair play englandsville. :thumbup

Really appreciate the generous offers, very good of yas & if i was insured or had a couple grand compo spare id possibly do it but im always a bit reluctant to test drive other guys motors.

On the basis neither  bikes offered for test drive are actually for sale it only further goes to show that the bikes are worthy & ive actually got my heart set on one now

Cheers foccers, top blokes!!! 8)

Like I said, I'd be happy with a gen one or two. Both brilliant bikes. But if you can go the extra you won't be disappointed with a gen 2, though it still surprises me how quick the fuel gauge drops sometimes lol. It's worth it though, helluva tool and then some...
