Yup that's what I did.

Happened to my 99 600 in 2003.  I bought the bike new, then in the summer of 2003 noticed a strange noise from around the front sprocket.  Nut and tab washer were loose and totally mashed.  It had done about 24,000 miles I think, over 20,000 anyway, and was still on the original chain and sprocket set.

I tried to clean up the O/P shaft threads with the appropriate thread file but they were pretty much flattened down.  I got a new tab and nut, but it just gave when I torqued it.

So got the arc welder out and on it went with three big spot welds.  Continued to ride for a few months and then put it away for the winter.  Towards the end of the winter in 2004 it got traded in against a zero miles pre reg thou.

Every spring I pop the cover off the thou and have a peek.  When I replaced the front sprocket the tab was well bashed doon and stud lock was applied to the threads before running the nut on and torquing.

If I may please link up my thread from last week as I was told that the 98 fazers had no issues here  http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php/topic,9738.0.html and this thread has a good photo of both nuts http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php/topic,3710....l#msg73858
