Oxford Heated Sports Grips
#21
Take a switched live from the fuse box.

See pointertonull's thread on the old forum  - http://fazerowners.yuku.com/topic/5650/H...1eoetW8uRM

He describes in detail ow to fit them.  Scroll further down the page for the clearer snaps I added on how to access a switched live.  It's not difficult, it means you'll have a proper switched live and you won't be loading, or rather over loading any existing circuits.

Sadly cos Oxford and other manufacturers now fit the silly battery protect feature the grips will have a tendency to switch off at traffic lights.  At tick-over the voltage drops, plus you have your lights on and of course the fan might cut in further dropping the voltage.
I just turned the tick-over screw up a wee bit and this stops the grips cutting out.

I always run grips from a switched relay using the correct wire core for the + into the relay they get toasty quick and no heat loss at all, i run em thro switch ignition wire from the plastic connector under the front left fairing cowling.

No need to fit a relay.
There are spare tags for correctly fitting accessories in the fuse box.

The only tricky but is locating the little tabs that let you remove the cores.  Once you understand what you are looking at it's a piece of cake.

It's as easy as that.
That's a GEN1 thou fuse box, but they are probably all the same.

Of course if you foc it up it's now't to dae wi me, I take no responsibility for your actions  Big Grin

But that's the right way to do it.

Right, All sorted, found that the connection from the control module on the Grips and the feed from the front break light switch was not sound, bit of solder later and all OK. What I have noticed is that if you sit at a set of light for more that 5 mins the blue light comes on. I think that this could be the Oxford controller monitoring the voltage and switching off. This is not an issue as I usually gently cruise up to lights, and try ad time it so I don't stop. Thanks everyone for your advice, this forum is great.  Smile

Wow, if patience is a virtue, you must be a saint  :angel !!!
If the lights have not changed green in 30 seconds I'm getting twitchy  Smile

Glad it is sorted now.  Bring back the old push button and dial controllers.
