Well, Le Mans weekend came and went. Stayed dry and mostly sunny, although Saturday night was down to 4 degrees, which meant my 3 season down sleeping bag was working overtime. My anxiety regarding queues for fuel were unfounded and had no problems whatsoever. Racing was not as close as the last few years, with the Yart Yamaha winning by 5 laps over the Sert Suzuki, which had encountered ecu and quick shifter problems. There was quite a high proportion of crashed bikes catching fire, which hasn’t been very evident over the last few years. The FCC TSR Honda mechs did an amazing job of restoring a cartwheeled Fireblade which eventually finished twelfth.
Tried a different route from the Eurotunnel, avoiding even more of the A16, which worked out ok. The usual lunch stop at Anet was as pleasant as expected, before proceeding south to the track, via the supermarket for water and provisions. So nice to be riding on unpotholed roads, other than in some heavily used commercial areas.
The ride home was equally enjoyable, riding on very familiar roads and for most of the time taking full advantage. A swift whizz up the M20 even got me home in time for the football. A quick glance at the trip meter showed 745.5 miles, with the Fazer doing it standing on its head, as usual.
