The bike runs well gets good spark etc but after running for a little while the bike starts bogging before cutting off completely and not starting for another little while. During this I’ve checked the height of fuel in the float bowl and it seems to drain almost completely and doesn’t refill so I thought it would be stuck float valves but after taking the carbs off and looking all seems good. The pump primes as normal and fuel can get through the system to the carbs but the float bowls just don’t fill up. The pump primes okay, the tank breather is ok, it’s had a new filter since when I first had a fuelling issue I replaced it and the fuel pump which worked for a little while. I also switched out the side stand switch and relay which when tested were faulty but the issue still seems to be there.
I’m thinking maybe I didn’t properly check the tubes that join the carbs together and there’s a blockage there before the float valves but does anyone have any advice, thoughts or ideas on where I should look next.
Thanks
When did this start, would it be since it's got cold by chance?
If so it's more than likely carb icing. The Fazer carbs are warmed by the bike coolant the little elbows that go into the carb bodies are very prone to blocking. All you need do to check is removed the black water feed pipe, have something ready to plug the end with it a small bore about 2mm ID. Using a length (approx 100mm) of nylon brisle or such like not steel copper is fine. Gently poke it through the elbow it should go in about 25mm easily if it bends or is difficult to insert it's blocked.
You need to remove the elbows and clear them. Removing the crabs is the best way as you can blow out the heater passage in each carb. While your there check the condition of the cooling system, the coolant should be clean i.e. no rust or very little.
