Correction incoming, it hit 20 years old 6 years ago in 2019.
this is known as agreed value insurance - the theory is that in the event of a write of for stolen bike, the insurance company and yourself don't get into arguments about the value as its been agreed upfront. If you say £3k now, your premium will reflect that and when the bike gets stolen, they will pay the £3k (minus excesses).
