When I was 16 I bought my second moped, a Puch 3-speed or banana bike as we called them because they were bright yellow. Dealer says, sorry sonny, you can't test it, no isurance cover for you. But t will be all fine when you come and pick it up. Duly collected it, jumped out of 2nd gear all the way home. Took bike back a few days later for repair under warranty. About 12 weeks later they finally gave me the bike back fixed. Nowadays 12 weeks passes in a flash, back then it was an eternity.
50 years on, I have never since bought a bike or car from the motor trade. And all tradesmen, be they motor trade, plumbers, whatnot are treated with suspiscion until their delivery proves otherwise. Fortunately, I can do a heck of a lot of things for myself but I still flinch when I start ringing around for the jobs I can't do.
