Yep I am with darrsi on this, I have long held a theory that has yet to be proved wrong that the 98 never had the issue. But definitely replace with the new wider nut when you change the sprockets and chain which must be any time now. How many miles has it done.
On the other hand it must of had the chain and sprockets changed and the owner just put the old one back on. In which case I would replace as you have no idea if they have put it back on with the correct torque and or thread lock
I don't do rain or threat there of. dry rider only with no shame.
