Michelin Road 5's, really good wet and dry grip with decent miles out of them. Nearly 6k on the last rear and still was just about legal.

I assume you're mounting the Road 5 rear 180/55-17.
Do you find its profile to be too steep in the shoulder's edge, and that part of the tyre never touching the ground, even in hard cornering.

I run PR5's, and yes the sides are steep, and no, I have no problem with not using all of the tyre - I'd rather there was a bit more "round" spare when I've leaned as far as I want to, rather than riding on an edge (and losing surface area if I have to lean further than I want to). My "chicken strips" are about 10mm after 3k miles, and I like them just fine.

They're great tyres, I've had 3's and 4's before which were very good, but 5's are a definite improvement - the compound away from the centre is much grippier than on previous models. Yes, you pay a tiny bit in dry, sunny grip compared to a not-suitable-for-rain-at-all-tyre, but it's when the weather's not so perfect that you need something you can depend on - I live in Wales, I'd never ride if I had to wait for the perfect forecast/ have a day off interface.
