Hi Gnasher, Thanks for your reply, very helpful. The saga so far is....when I bought the bike it had a small mark on top of the clutch cover(black engine). It annoyed me then, but I put off doing anything about it. A year ago I had the cam cover and alternator covers powder coated and was pleased with the outcome. Took the clutch cover last month to the same place. Collected it today and the colour match is way off. I made enquiries with an alternative powder coaters, but they reckoned they'd have to use far too abrasive media to remove the powder coating thus destroying the finish on the cover. I'm thinking along the lines of buying a new cover, unless I can get an unscratched used one. A new one would come minus bearings, which led to my post. I did wonder if the operating rod was used as a mandrel to install the lower bearing. One of those jobs you wish you'd never started. If my garage had been warmer I'd have gone down the RS Paints route. Thanks again for your advice, which is really useful. :thumbup
