My first checks would be (after the earth connections) the ignition switch and the Run/Stop switch. Flush the ignition switch with contact cleaner. Check all the wiring running to both switches, looking for signs of failure.
The bang is unburnt fuel in the exhaust suddenly igniting as the sparks come to life. I don't think it's fuel-related.
