So after a quick chat with Gnasher, he suggested a much simpler solution. As the mirror mounting nuts aren't captive and as I have plenty of clearance under the mirror mount points on the subframe. All I have to do is elongate the holes inwards to accommodate the FZS mirror studs. So order of operations on paper are -
- The stud diameter is 6mm on both mirrors so holes will not need to be modified.
- The stud spacing on the FZS mirrors is 27-28mm and on the FZ1 mirrors its 40mm, so I only have to elongate both holes inwards by 6mm.
- It looks like I will have to re-use the FZS mirror spacer-rubber, so I will be swapping out part 42 in the attached image. And I will have to possible enlargen the holes on the rubber spacer to accept the metal spacer the FZ1 mirrors use(see part 44).
- Then finally I will cut a 2-3mm rubber space of the same footprint as the FZ1 mirror boot to fill in the gape/space FZS mirror base the fairing.
