Because it's not built for the road as such only 500 were made. It was a homologation bike to allow it to be used in WSBK and endurance races at the time, all bikes had to be based on a road bike with a minimum of 200 units I think and it was a 750. Which at the time was the limit for 4 cylinder bikes, twins could be 1000 and that was what saved and relaunched Ducati. The R7 in road trim was 100 odd bhp, Yam produced two race kits, depending on the depth of your pockets 1st was £700 ish 130 odd bhp, 2nd £10000 ish 160 odd bhp if my memory serves me.
