Which model bike do you have?
For the FZS600, it is a simple check. Just read this

I have a gen 1 I think it is. 99 or 2000. I have tried the disconnect but it does not do anything. I have a 0 rev to 3k rev. It does this after i disconnect and connect

Bouncing between 0rpm to 3000rpm means it's either unplugged or completely knackered.
It may have been dodgy for a while as they normally play up and break down gradually, but unless you checked it you may not have realized.
The bike normally feels jerky below 3000rpm so you'd need more use of the clutch, and it would generally not feel or sound right.
Don't buy a used one from Ebay, because you will just get the same issue again further down the line.

That's great. Thanks for letting me know.
Will grab it and set it up using that guide of 5k revs.
