I've ha d pipercrossoil on mine for 3 years now and it's been fine. Mines the flat one though. The o ly slight problem I'm starting to have is the foam is starting to come away in the corner so I'll have to order a new one for the next service. All in all for £50 I think they're great for the sheer amount of use you get out of them.
I personally would just replace it and I doubt pipercross will care after more than a year.
As for leaving it in, put it back for a week or two then remove it and take more photos, compare with those you've posted and see of much paint is still coming off ?
