My current Shoei XR-1100 is about 3 years old.
My previous XR-1000 was about 8 years old. I replaced it when it slipped out of my hands as I was taking it off
It fell about 4 feet and bounced off a wooden bed frame and, although I managed to get my boot under it before it hit the concrete floor and there was no obvious damage, I decided that, although it still fit well, it was time to get a replacement.
Both are fibreglass which are recommended to be replaced after 5 years (but IMO that's only if you're wearing them all day, every day, in blazing sunshine etc), as opposed to polycarbondate ones which supposedly only have a 1 year lifespan.
